Had a customer @blizard_of_oz who ordered a Super Fuzz so he could leave his original at home as he goes on tour. He A/B them and was super pumped they sounded so close he couldn’t really tell from his vintage original blue rubber version. Back with another @davidgilmour @pinkfloyd post - this is film from 1971 Australia tour - you see him using Vox Wah - the Red Fuzz Face - DeArmond Volume pedal - with Binson Echo on amp - playing his Black parts guitar @fender Strat which sold for 14m$ last (if I won powerball I would have bought it). This was before he switched to Big Muffs and Power Booster (Tru-Fi Floyd Fuzz and Colordriver) I find this all fascinating dissecting old vid/photos. I built a Floyd Fuzz RAM last week, and as with some of the older pedals in the Tru-Fi lineup - how they came about and got named has been lost. Rewind Review : Being a huge @pinkfloyd fan and of course @davidgilmour nut I have always been interested in the history of what gear and pedals he used. After his Fuzz Face phase in late 60s and till about ‘71 he started using Big Muffs changing between Tri-Angle knob versions - RAM versions - and much later Civil War versions. Hence I came up with the name Floyd Fuzz and as we still do today offer that pedal in any of these versions. Differences in gain and tone though SLIGHT do occur and make it very interesting. The Release of Scream to Eternity pedal is official, just LOVE this pedal with the Brown switch it NOW gives just enough gain ! - always want more ! The Diode switch includes the 1S5188 is one of the original late 70s 808 diodes (not easy to find) and also the preferred of Susumu Tamaru the designer - and it also has real JRC4558 op-amp IC just like 1979. But my fav settings are Asymmetric Diode setting which is a bit more open, brown sound, and 808 Buffers - just GREAT TONE - I did this track at like 1am last night - u can hear the last little run I just ran out of gas HA ! These pedal pics of @jimihendrix live have just always fascinated me. The classic Vox Wah, Red Fuzz Face and Univibe at Woodstock are classic, but their a few of the Octavia which was produced by Roger Mayer which I’ll releasing in the summer and late 2027 when our Wah comes out (which is under way) and will have the complete Hendrix set. This is a journey of tone that I love pursuing if nothing more as a life long passion of mine - and I know tons of you as well. I spent enormous amount of time trying to release a pedal with lots of switch’s and tweaks in the Centaur world. The top switch gives u 20% more gain, because I love gain and I didn’t JUST want these things used for clean boost - you can hear it right now I did this quick Demo with boost on and it sings. Inside u will find DIP switch to go stock or add bass/treble - another for Diodes the stock is 1N34 old school big glass which is as close to the mystery diode I found. A Interesting Tone is NO diode in Brown mode - different - No diode in Centaur is very OPEN sounding. The pedal LOOKs fantastic, which does matter to me - like a brick of gold. We have gone down the @jeffbeckofficial rabbit hole all week, so I decided we should view the 1975 Midnight Special TV show when Jeff and Buddy Miles performed with the Billy Preston band. This was released short after the landmark Blow By Blow with a notable performance of Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers. Just killer to watch, GREAT BAND - long time contributor Max Middleton on keys as well. You can hear Billy Preston use mid 70s Moog half thru clip kinda not like album but cool. Going back to a picture @bdonnelly sent me of @jeffbeckofficial and @jimmypage and I was so struck by it, and not in the “normal” guitar hero reasons. It hit me that this was much deeper than that, here are two guys that became guitar legends but during that journey they built, experienced and enjoyed an lifetime of friendship. How incredible !!! - we seem to lose one incredible important element of The Fuzz Life in our never ending love of the music, the box’s, the stars, and the guitars. It’s the actual people along the journey - it’s actually the most important F’en part. The rest is actually just all glitter in the journey of life - but the people that came and went in your journey that’s the actual gift. People some good some bad but who had the mutual love and interests as you, you sweated in basements with, broke down in sh%^y Vans at 2am with, taught u a 9th chord or the beauty of @johncoltrane - talked who is more influential @thew6rst Tim Henson or @robertfrippofficial till midnight - they became ur best friends. Just remember it a bit, treasure it a bit - the HUMAN connection is really The Fuzz Life - this week call a friend, make a jam with an a old band, make a racket, stomp on a Fuzz box with someone, then laugh, drink a beer and SUCK IT ALL IN - IN A HAZE OF THE FUZZ LIFE - but if you sit on your couch watching Netflix and scrolling your phone - your gonna miss one of Fuzz’s greatest gifts - the people along the way. I was watching this clip of the late great @jeffbeckofficial from 1972 - “Definitely Maybe” is the song from the Jeff Beck era - and if u watch closely you will notice that he has a few clunkers in the first 30 secs. A harmonic dies on him, and 30 secs in a riff kinda dies out on him. Actually how refreshing - my guitar hero was human. In this day of sequencers - AI - ProTools - Autotune we never see a mistake or out of time or klunker - the human element is all but erased. IS this a good thing ?? I don’t know but I like humans and humans are flawed and music is flawed - I don’t want everything to be perfect and massaged - cause then haven’t u washed out the human quality - it’s just computer music ? Plz comment below maybe I’m crazy - but I make a lot of mistakes it’s good to see hero’s do as well. NOTE The Strat he is playing is a 1954 @fender Strat parts guitar, CBS neck, hideous varnish finish, aka broken pick guard Strat - which was smashed in 1977 in a fit of rage when it went out of tune live - supposedly he threw off stage and hit John McLaughlin who was watching - lore I don’t know comment below.
