I think Florian Wirtz has unintentionally brought the best out of Dominik Szoboszlai. When Szoboszlai first arrived, many of us thought we were getting a Steven Gerrard type figure. We had all seen the YouTube clips, the long range strikes, the free kicks, the confidence. But in his first two seasons he often looked like he was holding something back. There were flashes of quality, moments where you saw what he could become, yet he seemed to play within himself at times, almost like he was battling a bit of imposter syndrome. His numbers were decent rather than outstanding: 45 games, 7 goals and 5 assists in 2023–24, then 49 games, 8 goals and 9 assists in 2024–25. Solid, but we expected more, and it felt like the club did too. Then Liverpool went and spent over £115 million on Florian Wirtz, and the immediate reaction was that Szoboszlai’s place was under serious threat. Instead, it seems to have lit a fire under him. Now in 2025–26 we are finally seeing the real Szoboszlai. The confidence is there, the long shots, the free kicks, the authority in his play. Through 35 games he already has 10 goals and 7 assists, and he looks every bit the player we hoped he would become when he first signed. It feels like the competition has sharpened him. Having another elite creative player around has pushed him to express himself more, play with freedom, and take responsibility in big moments. He looks more decisive now, more confident, and far more willing to grab games by the scruff of the neck. A player many thought would be benched has instead turned into our player of the season.

@AnythingLFC_ Maybe compare stats when they were all in bundesliga? Even Diaz says its far easier with more time on the ball. But, I still would of paid him what ever he wanted and kept him.
