They are "waiting for a green light after Iran," and that tells you everything about how interconnected these fronts actually are. The next Gaza campaign has been described as "different and decisive," targeting Hamas governing structures from the top down, not just military capacity. What that means in practice: Israel wants to collapse the system Hamas uses to govern, negotiate, and project legitimacy. The hostages sit inside that calculation. Thousands of Israelis celebrated Independence Day on the ruins of Ras โEin al-โAuja, the largest Palestinian community in the Jordan Valley, which the military expelled just months ago with the help of settler militias.
The lives of the 125 families in the community โ 625 people, 333 of them minors โ were violently upended by the Israeli regime. Since October 2023, Israel has expelled 59 entire Palestinian communities and partially expelled 16 more: all in all, 4,510 people driven out of their homes to promote Israelโs policy of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank.
