Part 8 Mr. California’s Story Domenick started the day with fire: “I refuse to capitulate over our country’s Star Spangled Banner!” He believes the Pledge of Allegiance must be restored in every school in California with real respect not just empty words. Here it is: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one Nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all.” This is what HOLD looks like. Civilization was overwhelming. Totally repetitions of single level hotels and motels, numerous fast food franchises from A&W Root Beer to McDonalds embellished the landscape, for which it was impossible to escape. A new Golden Era was born. Opportunity was abounding for government and commerce, everyone who sacrificed the laborious Route 66 road trip of a lifetime.

Granting way to the Greater Los Angeles County in the 1900s proved to be evident that the Wild Wild West had reached maturity. San Gabriel Mission Valley would become the homeland of thousands.

Part 7 Mr. California’s Story Purple Haze beautiful sunset. Subsequent Route 66 family road trips continued for the decade of the socially turbulent 60s. Deception and discord ultimately plagued our family. We knew our parents had stripped their children of a normal childhood.

New Mexico offered the limestone caves of Carlsbad Caverns stalagmites stalactites! Arizonas red dirt petrified millions of trees to stone! All three states are impressive natural geological spectacular creations. What we did not know we would find ourselves repeating this journey eight times before adulthood. Often the serious intent to escape our dysfunctional parents became reality.

The days of travel and skepticism fatigued all seven of us. Our parents tried to enhance the journey by stopping at most Points Of Interest. The personal and jaded collective memories of these places have greatly diminished over four decades. I have these waning memories to share today. The state of Texas offered Mission San Antonio's Alamo where America lost our famous frontiersman Davey Crockett his last stand fighting Mexico's Santa Ana to occupy and control the American West.

Part 6 Mr. California’s Story On the seventh day our family rested in Red Rock Canyon. Wild Pinto horses thundering down the trail at dusk. A prismatic sunrise the next morning.
