The Philippines just sent 7 vessels (2 Coast Guard + 5 BFAR patrol ships) to Scarborough Shoal after Chinese forces surrounded more than 20 Filipino fishing boats. China’s response included Coast Guard ships, Maritime Militia vessels, and a PLA Navy warship. These are Philippine waters. In 2016, an international tribunal ruled definitively in Manila’s favor. China rejected the ruling, ignored it, and later quietly declared Scarborough Shoal a Chinese “national nature reserve” in September 2025 — effectively occupying the area and then filing the paperwork afterward. This is the CCP’s consistent South China Sea playbook: Take. Intimidate. Repeat. Rename. The world still politely calls it a “dispute,” as if two equal sides are arguing over a technicality, instead of acknowledging one nuclear-armed state systematically swallowing its smaller neighbor’s waters, one fishing boat at a time.
