"According to Fanon, the evil of colonization is something the native does to himself. He persuades himself of his own worthlessness. He accepts European dominion because he acknowledges European superiority, not just in military terms but also in cultural and moral ones as well. According to Fanon, freedom cannot be regained by negotiation; still less can it be regained by accepting help from the former oppressor, whether in the form of medical supplies or of the moral support which today is called “allyship.” True decolonization is existential, and it requires redemptive acts of violence. The colonized must assert himself in order to destroy old beliefs and relationships. Only in a blow against the colonizer does the native become a free agent, capable of making his own history. Without violence toward the former oppressor, Fanon argued (and Sartre agreed), freedom is impossible. Raspail is alive to the full implications of Fanon’s analysis, which so many progressives accepted but which few followed to its logical end. 'The Third World’s desire,' writes Raspail, 'is to be indebted to no one, to in no way dilute the radical meaning of its victory by sharing it with renegades.'" - Nathan Pinkoski, Introduction, The Camp of the Saints

It is true that a lot (not all) of the history of the "left" since the late 1700's has been the history of intellectuals dreaming of leading the working classes but utterly failing to connect with them.
Enragés@SecessioPlebiss

That Hyperpolitics book is the classic example of an elitist leftist tradition of writing leftslop that says absolutely nothing new or interesting but simply romanticizes a past workers movement that the author envisions they could’ve been a powerful thought leader within.

@FrenziedFish @breakingyoun It was a charitable pity cast to an old friend who suffered a self-destructive mental illness, plus progressive brownie point bait for the academy/critics. Win-win situation.

@breakingyoun Why didn't he just cast an actual boy? The central role Elleniot plays has easy allusions to her real life trajectory. If the casting decision was completely void of any consideration to her identity it's instead just a bad casting choice as she sucks and is extremely off-putting

The central error in the “suicidal empathy” and “suicide of the West” theses is that they misrepresent homicide as suicide. After the West is finished, those who spent generations engineering its destruction will take loud, visible credit for the kill the moment it becomes safe.

Hyper-politics (politics with high emotional intensity and very low practical impact) is just the flip side of hypo-sociality (lots of alienated individuals interacting virtually without any real community).

Can you imagine Stanley Kubrick reviewing this Viking ship, these suits of plate armour, these Trojan costumes and this display of archery, then saying, “Good enough, let’s go with it”? Below: Taschen’s Stanley Kubrick’s Napoleon, 832 pages of research for a film he never made.
