Daily reminder that people on the Internet lie. People have lied about some of the most despicable things one can imagine, ruining people's lives with nothing to gain out of it, not even clout. Always be skeptical of what you read online.

So here comes limits for the average user. Soon they will get stricter. Eventually you will need premium on Twitter to even post. Afterwards premium currency is introduced. Nothing but greed.

Subnautica 2's Steam EULA is getting huge backlash. On first launch, players must accept a detailed End User License Agreement, and players are worried after read them >The agreement grants a license to play the game rather than transferring ownership. >It includes restrictions on streaming, screenshots, recordings, and certain types of content creation or monetization, often requiring disclaimers. >The publisher retains the right to revoke access for specified reasons. >Terms may be updated unilaterally, with users expected to review changes. >The agreement covers data collection practices involving personal and device information. >It addresses ownership of player-created content, modifications, and related materials. >Additional clauses address liability limits, dispute resolution through arbitration in California, and prohibitions on certain software tools, VPN use, and other activities. The game has achieved strong reception overall, with Very Positive Steam reviews and high concurrent player counts. Unknown Worlds Entertainment has noted that it is reviewing player feedback on the EULA. Some players have requested refunds after reading the EULA, while others just say the terms are normal with industry standards.

@crabbycorgi @Makoa_75 @Pirat_Nation Huh, I guess I was actually wrong about that as well. I was sure the developers made the game harder to mod so that people can't mod weapons into it.

@Fingusa @Makoa_75 @Pirat_Nation Apparently, thanks to some rude jackass pointing correcting me, it's not the devs who are trying to prevent modding, they just don't give any modding tools, it's krafton so made the EULA. So now I gotta do some more reading to understand that whole situation

The developers of Subnautica 2 want to keep the game non-violent like the first one. They want players to adapt and live with the ocean creatures instead of fighting or killing them with weapons. This core idea started years ago when studio founder Charlie Cleveland chose to leave guns out of the series after the Sandy Hook shooting. He wanted the game to feel like peaceful exploration of nature rather than adding more violence to the world. Even though fans from one country overwhelmingly asked for the chance to craft weapons in the sequel the team says this will be a repeated point of resistance. One developer explained "I think it's a point of resistance that we'll get repeatedly while making the game though we feel strongly about it." So players must instead use smart tools evasion and distraction to survive.

@crabbycorgi @Makoa_75 @Pirat_Nation Yup, at this point the original has more high quality modded content than the sequel currently has without mod and in early access. Do hope people will check out the work modders have put into the original because of running out of stuff to do in the sequel.

@crabbycorgi @guacamoulay @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation Can't imagine people today would get the radio puzzle. I remember only getting it cause when I was a wee lad I was in my country's equivalent of Scouts. But yeah Penumbra's atmosphere was brilliant. Extremely underrated game.

@guacamoulay @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation I mean, the fact that a lot of people in the original fought back and the developers have to straight up remove options to fight back means that there is definitely a sizeable amount of players wanting to fight back. It's only logical, really.

@Fingusa @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation There's just as many of both and both ways to achieve horror are successful. I don't think fighting back fits Subnautica though, the threats in there aren't threatening enough for you to be able to fight them.

@crabbycorgi @guacamoulay @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation Actually yeah, now that I think about it, even Amnesia kinda moved away from the defenseless main character trope. Which is funny cause the original Penumbra had means of defending yourself. The cycle has been closed.

Dead space one vs amnesia. Both horror games, one with weapons, one without. Both eventually desensitize you and the horror aspects turn into impediments. The amnesia monster was funny after a while. Then there's the amnesia the bunker, which had guns with limited ammo. Horrifying game that makes you feel claustrophobic and vulnerable, you can shoot the monster but that doesn't make the horror aspects fall away. Infact the horror elements are even stronger than it's predecessor that didn't have weapons.

@guacamoulay @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation I never got to that part cause I stopped playing when the game wanted me to get several inventories of random resources which meant hours of pointless resource hunting. Still, something being boring is subjective. I like Factorio but I bet a lot of people wouldn't.

@Fingusa @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation The loss of risk is what made the end portion of Subnautica 1 so much lamer, you sit in your Prawn Suit and you can kill anything in your path. There's no risk to anything anymore.

@guacamoulay @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation You've not played a lot of horror games, have you? The "thing is scary, I can kill it but gotta be careful about ammo" genre of horror is older than "oh no I cannot defend myself" genre of horror. And it is still around, making lots of money and being beloved by many.

@Fingusa @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation True to the last one. But horror rarely gives you an option to outright kill the source of danger, because then it's no longer a danger, only an obstacle. So then it has to do cheap shite like jumpscares.

@Fingusa @Makoa_75 @Pirat_Nation Imagine being so self righteous that you actively prevent modding (which is proven to heavily increase sales and life span of games) because you know people are going to make mods that circumvent your virtue signalling.

@Recna8 @Fingusa @Pirat_Nation If you CAN kill it, there is no other option other to KILL it. That's the issue, you can't make the player interact with the game in more interesting ways if they can just destroy the obstacle.

@guacamoulay @Recna8 @Pirat_Nation The point is player choice. If you don't wanna kill leviathans and get hunted by them, more power to you I guess, we all have weird kinks. But I am sure most people prefer fighting back.

@Recna8 @Fingusa @Pirat_Nation Yes, you can, and it kills the atmosphere if you do. Prawn suit makes killing everything easy as hell, it's the point in the game where you aren't really vulnerable anymore and there is no risk in exploration.
