Metro Tunnel Opening Day: Transit-Oriented Development Assessment I visited all 5 new stations. Queued an hour at Sunbury. Rode opening train. Documented everything. Here's what they got right, what they got wrong, and what we should copy. Thread 🧵 #MetroTunnel #Urbanism

Heaps of others have posted but l don’t know why they reopened the section of Flinders St that was closed (due to Munnel works)for a few years to cars..the city seemed to cope..how good would it have been if there was a pedestrian plaza outside one of our main train stations..

@TerenceMcCart14 Victorian Labor has infuriatingly low vision urban planning policies. Everything has to be designed to accommodate cars in some way, even in the CBD. They don't seem to realise that you can just close streets during the day and allow commercial vehicles in at night and early morn

@wheelreinvent I mean, I was at Kings Cross yesterday and the advertising literally had sound. I think I'll take Melbourne's screens over a full assault on my senses.

@Llib7 I'm neither here nor there on FTZ but it's a bit silly that a trip within the Hoddle Grid by tram is free, but by bus or train it costs 2 hour fare even for a single stop.

@Llib7 Every time I've used transit on the weekends it's been crush capacity. My parents went to AO yesterday. Direct quote from my Mum: "Epic public transport fail. AO trams at capacity and people can't get on. Small trams, not the big ones and not a good frequency."

Trains still busy on the weekend in #melbourne and probably #Victoria in January. Anyone else have anecdotal evidence. I’d actually like to see the stats for this although that may be harder without tapping on

Revised bus timetables aren't up yet but trips are in the journey planner. Confirms that the new 241 bus will run from North Melbourne to at least Victoria Park via Arden and Parkville. This will run every 10 min weekdays and 30 min weekends.

They spent half a billion dollars to not solve the problem. They'll cut the ribbon. Take the photos. Declare victory. And in 2027, Melton residents will still be driving to the train station, waiting 20 minutes for a train that's too crowded. premier.vic.gov.au/transport-upgr…

You can't claim to be building world-class public transport when a 16-minute drive takes 72 minutes by bus. You can't call it a "network" when the closest stop is a 30-minute walk. This isn't transport policy. This is abandonment. #auspol #vicpol #MelbourneTransport @ptua @Llib7

At @FusionPartyAU, we have a plan to Reclaim Our Economy by actually funding bus operations. 5-minute frequencies on major roads. 10-minutes on regional connectors. Local buses that actually reach residential areas. Operations first. Make transit work for everyone.

I just tried to get home from the shops using public transport. It's a 16-minute drive. Google Maps told me it would take 1 hour 12 minutes by bus. Let me show you exactly how broken Melton's bus network is. 🧵
