The credit for defeating Sir Keir Starmer’s Chagos surrender bill goes to its political opponents who waged a relentless and diligent campaign. They got almost zero help from a group that should have been even more against the bill than anyone: environmentalists.
When Starmer government suggested handing over the islands to Mauritius – a nation that had campaigned against the designation of the archipelago as one of the world’s largest marine protected areas (MPAs), had partly ruined its own coral reefs, and was proposing to allow ‘traditional’ fishing in the archipelago, possibly including European fleets – I expected howls of protest from environmentalists. Instead, silence.

Feeding your child breakfast is a parental responsibility, not the government’s.
Calling them ‘free’ breakfasts is misleading, they’re funded by taxpayers.
At a time when public services are under pressure, I’d rather see that money directed towards core issues like fixing roads and tackling the energy crisis.
Support should be there for genuinely vulnerable families, but normalising the state stepping in for basic parenting duties is not a direction I will ever agree with.

@BenGrahamUK As a tax layer im totally fine with my money going to feed child who need it 👍 and also, the breakfast club allows me to drop my kid off at school AND get to work on time. So how about you go fuck yourself Ben?

🇮🇪 Dublin is SHAKING. The Government may have won the vote 92-78, but they’ve lost the room. This movement for freedom and fair prices is the biggest we’ve seen in years. Keep your eyes on Ireland! 🇮🇪🔥 #DublinProtest #IrelandUnfiltere

Starmer and Reeves would rather pay people to do nothing than pay to defend the nation - leaving us more vulnerable than at any time in our history

Vance says that stopping funding for Ukraine is one of his proudest achievements in this administration.
I’m watching this stunningly cruel speech from Ukraine, as Russia continues to kills us every day. Just today, they killed 8-year-old boy in Cherkasy and five people in Dnipro. Dozens more were injured.
The military assistance you are so proud of stopping was used to save lives in a war Russia started and continues every day by choice, in a war that only became possible after USA pressured Ukraine into disarming...
I do not know if Vance can fully comprehend the scale of the tragedy unfolding here: a brutal, illegal war of extermination by Russia, and the slow abandonment by our allies. There is nothing to be proud of. Absolutely nothing.

No solo sonrió. Se rió. Una risa ronca y seca.
Entonces me miró y dijo: «Eso no tenía gracia, papá».

🇵🇱 Poland's military is the third largest in NATO, with over 200,000 active personnel. Only the United States and Turkey have more troops.
Poland has been rapidly expanding its army since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and is planning further expansion, with a target of 300,000 by 2035, according to government plans.

I took my 11 year old to her checkup this morning and the nurse asked me to step out of the room for a moment. I politely declined and she said, "It's just for a moment." And I told her, "No thank you, given all the stories about children being abused my husband and I decided to never leave our children alone with anyone, even medical providers. Anything you need to do or say you can do with me in the room." She looked all miffed and just left, no idea what her plan was but she didn't feel the need to continue it with me present and that makes me even more suspicious?? When she left my daughter thanked me for not leaving, she's already shy about the doctor, her eyes got so wide when the lady asked me to leave.

It's shocking how silent people are over the treatment of women in Afghanistan.
In particular, those that cheered the US withdrawal and the return of the Taliban.
Eyal Yakoby@EYakoby
Afghanistan’s education minister has announced that women are permanently banned from schools. UN Women has not said a word.
