Germany's Left Party has submitted what's being described as one of the most aggressive anti-Bitcoin proposals in European history. The motion calls on the German government to abolish the country's 1-year holding rule that currently allows tax-free Bitcoin gains for long-term holders, tax Bitcoin profits like stock market gains, introduce an "exit tax" on unrealized crypto gains for anyone leaving Germany, expand blockchain surveillance, require identity verification even for self-hosted wallets interacting with regulated services, create a centralized EU crypto supervisory authority, and push for EU-wide trading bans on proof-of-work assets like Bitcoin, citing energy consumption. This isn't just the Left Party. German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has separately announced that crypto taxation will be revised as part of the 2027 federal budget. The 1-year tax-free holding period that made Germany one of the most attractive countries for long-term Bitcoin holders appears to be on the way out regardless of which proposal moves forward. The Left Party claims billions in untaxed crypto profits are being lost. Austria already tried this. They abolished a similar exemption in 2022 and imposed a 27.5% crypto gains tax. The result: far less tax revenue than expected, more complexity, and more bureaucracy. Bitpanda's CEO says the Austrian experience proves the approach doesn't work. The exit tax on unrealized gains is the most alarming part. If you hold Bitcoin in Germany and decide to leave, they want to tax gains you haven't even realized yet. That's not a tax on income. That's a claim on your property for trying to leave.

BREAKING: First Conspiracy Charges Hit Fauci’s Inner Circle — Top Aide David Morens Indicted in COVID Origins Cover-Up Today, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted Dr. David Morens, a longtime senior adviser to Dr. Anthony Fauci, on felony charges, including conspiracy against the United States, for allegedly orchestrating efforts to hide federal records related to the origins of COVID-19. Morens, 78, served as a senior scientific adviser in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) — the agency Fauci directed for nearly four decades. Morens, who worked directly with Fauci for 24 years, now faces four main charges: - Conspiracy against the United States - Destruction, alteration, or falsification of records in federal investigations - Concealment, removal, or mutilation of records - Aiding and abetting These represent the first criminal conspiracy charges brought against a member of Fauci’s inner circle in connection with the COVID-19 origins investigation. It later emerged that Fauci himself had privately prompted and helped shape the paper, while his agency, NIAID, had been funding gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology through EcoHealth Alliance. House investigations later uncovered emails from Morens that appeared to show deliberate efforts to hide and destroy evidence. For example, on September 9, 2021, Morens wrote to EcoHealth Alliance president Peter Daszak (copying Proximal Origin authors Kristian Andersen, Robert Garry, and Edward Holmes): “Don’t worry, just send to any of my addresses and I will delete anything I don’t want to see in the New York Times.” He advised using his private Gmail instead of official NIH accounts to dodge FOIA requests. In February 2021, Morens also boasted how to evade FOIA: “i learned from our foia lady here how to make emails disappear after i am foia’d but before the search starts… Plus i deleted most of those earlier emails after sending them to gmail.” In April 2021, Morens detailed his working methods with Fauci: “PS I forgot to say there is no worry about FOIAs. I can either send stuff to Tony on his private gmail, or hand it to him at work or at his house. He is too smart to let colleagues send him stuff that could cause trouble.” And, in June 2020, he wrote: “We are all smart enough to know to never have smoking guns, and if we did we wouldn’t put them in emails and if we found them we’d delete them.” This is a developing story. The DOJ described Morens' alleged actions as “a profound abuse of trust at a time when the American people needed it most.” Already last year, in January 2025, President Joe Biden granted a full preemptive pardon to Fauci, covering all potential criminal acts from 2014 onward. Mammals have been using ambient soundscape continuity as a predator-detection system for roughly 200 million years. Birds stop singing when something larger moves through their territory. For most of mammalian history, a forest full of song meant no large predator was nearby, and the cessation of sound was the warning. Your nervous system never updated this software. The Max Planck Institute tested the inverse in 2022 with 295 participants. Six minutes of birdsong dropped anxiety with a medium effect size. Six minutes of traffic noise raised depression with the same. The effect worked on subjects who lived in dense urban environments and had no regular contact with nature. The brain still ran the check. Birdsong sits in the 1,000 to 8,000 Hz range. Your brainstem reads continuous patterns in that band as a signal that nothing dangerous is currently moving through the environment. EEG data shows birdsong at 45 to 50 decibels boosts alpha wave activity by 14.1% relative to silence. Alpha is the brainwave signature of relaxed alertness. Push the same birdsong above 60 decibels and the response flips. Stress markers rise 29%. The circuit only trusts the signal at the volume of quiet conversation, which is exactly the volume birds sing at from a typical distance. Three things happen simultaneously when the brain registers ambient safety. The amygdala downregulates. The parasympathetic nervous system takes over from the sympathetic. Heart rate variability rises, cortisol drops. The posterior cingulate cortex, which sits at the center of the rumination circuit, quiets down. King's College London tracked this through a smartphone study with over 1,200 participants and found the mood lift lasted hours after the sound stopped. People diagnosed with depression got the same response as healthy controls. Most of what gets labeled mental fatigue is hypervigilance running in the background. Birdsong tells the circuit it can stand down, and the brain reallocates the freed compute everywhere else. A quiet park feels different from a quiet office because the parks have sentinels.

My boss's boss is like 42, never married, no kids. Earns $275-300K per year. Goes on a minimum of two international vacations a year w/ his girlfriend. 10+ days, all out. But what I've realized is that without kids, you end up chasing a lifestyle that has to continually be topped in order for you to be satisfied and find happiness. What he and others like him don't understand is that when you have children, seeing THEM experience life's most basic things and watching their eyes light up at all the "firsts", brings greater pleasure and joy than any vacation or travel experience ever could. Seeing THEM try blueberries for the first time is greater than dining at the best 5 star restaurant in Europe. Seeing THEM learn how to walk is greater than walking the Great Wall of China or strolling along the most picturesque beach. Watching THEM giggle uncontrollably at "peek-a-boo" tops any A-list comedian act. Seeing THEIR excitement when building a fort out of cardboard boxes and making a door big enough for daddy is superior to staying at 5-star resorts. Flying kites with THEM far outweighs excursions like parasailing or helicopter rides. Seeing THEM perform a recital on stage for the first time is more rewarding than watching a Broadway show or top notch symphony orchestra. ----------------- When you have children, all of a sudden you realize that life's greatest joys are not in the pursuit of things or pleasure or travel, but rather in the LOVE and bond you share with your very own image bearers. Seeing the beauty and magnificence and wonder of life all over again for the first time through THEIR eyes and expressions gives you something the world simply cannot offer, nor even come close.

In February 1928 a Canadian Arctic explorer called Vilhjalmur Stefansson walked into Bellevue Hospital in New York City and announced, to a committee of distinguished physicians who had been waiting for him, that he and his colleague Karsten Anderson were going to live on nothing but meat for the next year, under their direct medical supervision, and they could measure whatever they liked. The committee was thrilled. They were going to watch a man kill himself in the name of science. Stefansson had spent eleven years in the Arctic living among the Inuit. He had eaten what they ate, which was meat and fat from caribou and seal and fish, with effectively no plant matter, for the entire duration. He had not died. He had not got scurvy. He had, in fact, been rather well, and had come back to a country that did not believe him about any of it. So he had offered himself as the experiment. The committee included some of the most prominent nutrition researchers of the era. They were, by their own admission, expecting Stefansson to develop scurvy within weeks, kidney damage within months, and various nutritional collapses across the rest of the year. Stefansson and Anderson spent the year eating beef, lamb, veal, pork, chicken, the occasional fish. They ate the fat with the lean, in roughly the proportion of an Arctic seal, which is to say very fat indeed. They ate organs. They ate marrow. They drank water and coffee. No vegetables, no fruit, no grain, no sugar. At the end of the year both men were in better health than at the start. No scurvy. No kidney damage. No vitamin deficiencies. Stefansson's blood pressure had dropped slightly. His cholesterol had dropped slightly. He had lost a small amount of weight and reported feeling better than he had in years. The committee published the results in the Journal of Biological Chemistry in 1930. There was one short period early on when the supervising physicians, trying to be helpful, gave Stefansson lean meat without sufficient fat. He immediately developed the symptoms the Plains Indians had called rabbit starvation: nausea, weakness, the feeling of being unable to eat enough. He politely explained the problem. The committee, slightly chastened, increased the fat ratio. The symptoms vanished within forty-eight hours and never returned. The experiment was the cleanest possible test of the hypothesis that humans require plant foods to survive, conducted under hospital supervision, by sceptics who expected the subject to fail. The subject did not fail. The subject thrived. Almost nobody has heard of it. It is not in the textbooks. It is not in the dietary guidelines. It is not mentioned by the nutritionists who confidently assert that a varied diet including all food groups is essential for human health, despite the existence of a hospital-supervised year-long experiment that demonstrated otherwise nearly a century ago. When the data does not match the model, you have two options. Revise the model, or ignore the data and hope nobody looks too closely. We chose option two. The paper is sitting in the library. Waiting for option one.
