A new report released by @SuccessCharters says 43% of New York City public school students are in "massively failing" schools. @MoskowitzEva blames the failure to fix those schools on teachers unions and bureaucracy and says the accountability system is “broken.” "The children suffer for the sins of the adults."

"It used to be that the Democrats [who support charter schools] could fit in a phone booth," says @MoskowitzEva. Pointing to outspoken supporters like @RepRitchie, she says that has changed, but "we don't have as many as I would like because of the special interests."

Sen. Lindsey Graham has died after a “brief and sudden illness,” his office said. He was 71. The statement his office shared on social media early Sunday did not provide additional details about the death of the South Carolina Republican, who served in Congress for three decades. Graham was one of President Donald Trump’s closest allies in the Senate. He advocated for a more aggressive U.S. foreign policy during trips around the world and advised the president on matters including Iran and Russia. Trump told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that Graham was “like a member of the family. It’s very tough.” He said the senator called him Saturday night after returning from a trip to Ukraine and “sounded a little bit tired, but perfect.” As Senate Budget Committee chairman, Graham played a key role during Trump’s second term while Republicans pushed legislation on party-line votes with a narrow majority in the chamber. Graham was seeking a fifth Senate term in November. South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster will appoint a temporary replacement.

Success Academy CEO @MoskowitzEva pushes back on the critics who say that her schools cherry-pick their students, arguing their goal is to “educate every child exceptionally well who crosses our threshold.” “If you saw the range of kids and families that we deal with on a daily basis, there's no way we would be cherry-picking.”

.@MoskowitzEva has built @SuccessCharters into one of the top charter school networks in New York. Can that model be replicated in public education nationwide? "I don't see why it can't," she says. "Why can't every kid in New York and across America get an excellent education?"

"I don't think we should look back on the past condescendingly and cancel people we don't like, and all that," says historian Jon Meacham. "That's not honest and intellectually coherent. Nor should we look up at it adoringly." Follow on Spotify: bit.ly/3MJC05z

There are "absolutely" elements of American history that are shameful, says Jon Meacham, but "I think that it's remarkable that we've gotten as much right as we have." "History is a conversation with the past in the present, hopefully creating a future that we will be proud of."

Historian Jon Meacham explains why he sees character as the most important quality in a president. "What I want to know about someone who wants to be president is how have they responded to adversity in their own lives?...Because the presidency is nothing but a running personal crisis."
