Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was a husband, father, and hardworking member of his community who spent decades building a life for his family. He was shot and killed by an ICE officer on his way to work. His family deserves transparency, accountability, and an independent investigation.

Today, I returned to the Hub in the South Bronx to assess conditions firsthand and ensure the city is following through on the public safety measures I fought for. We must continue working to make this neighborhood safer and stronger for everyone who calls it home.

Ten years ago, Congress enacted PROMESA to address Puerto Rico’s unprecedented fiscal crisis and provide a path toward restructuring an unsustainable debt burden. But it also imposed an unelected Fiscal Oversight and Management Board, La Junta, that remains a painful reminder of the denial of democratic rights to the more than three million American citizens who call Puerto Rico home. As Puerto Rico continues making meaningful progress toward fiscal stability, the time has come to end this extraordinary federal intervention and restore full fiscal authority to Puerto Rico’s democratically elected government. I will continue fighting until La Junta is abolished once and for all. Puerto Rico deserves fiscal stability without sacrificing democracy or self-government.

Trump just defunded the New York office that reclaimed $627M from actual fraud — an office his own administration praised for leading the nation in anti-fraud work! You can't slash Medicaid funding for the neediest among us AND defund the people truly fighting fraud while claiming to champion "government efficiency." Hypocrisy of the highest order.

The Supreme Court has spoken and upheld that birthright citizenship is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. It was settled law 128 years ago in Wong Kim Ark, and it remains settled law today. The Supreme Court just cleared the way to begin deporting hundreds of thousands of Haitians and several thousand Syrians who have lived and worked in the US for years. This ruling lets the administration end humanitarian protection by fiat, with no court able to stop it while the case proceeds. This is a disgraceful attack on our neighbors and cruelty dressed up as law. Tens of thousands of Haitian TPS holders work as the nurses and home health aides caring for our seniors. Ripping away their status hurts every family that depends on their care.
