CBC Morning's Robyn Bresnahan interviewed me on March 7, 2022, asking why dads are lonely and how the Ottawa Dads Walking Club might be able to help fathers to connect. Several dads suggested that I focus the message more. cbc.ca/listen/live-ra…

@wakeupcallLLC Everyday, routine functions should be on "dashboard" not hidden several menus deep. Microsoft Word and Outlook both do poorly on this.

@wakeupcallLLC I'm not a software developer and have no training in this field. But as a user of everyday, generalist word processing programs, I expect to be able to do routine, basic tasks without training or a manual. I should be able to figure out basic functions by trying things out.

I’m in training for new software at work. If that training requires lengthy explanation about certain tasks, the software is not as intuitive and user-friendly as it should be. If you simplify enough, you don’t need lengthy explanations. Just my opinion. Make stuff easy.

Pesky scientists are going to prevent us from continuing to enjoy medieval period pieces in which the lords enjoy banquet tables groaning with huge roast boars and beef. Studies suggest they ate mostly grains & veggies. I always loved those banquet scenes cnn.com/2022/05/05/eur…

Dads, look at the smile on Tyler's daughter's face. That's how much fun kid's libraries are. If you haven't been to a library much lately, they've changed. As Tyler's tweet explains, they have events and activities for kids to make learning enjoyable.

We utilize our local library so much! Free kids crafts & programs. We go as a family & pick out books. I think more families should make a habit of it. My Angel returned 9 books she read last week. Made a craft & scooped up 10 more books for this week :)

Pathways to health: 1. Dessert for breakfast, such as Choco-Chunks-type cereal or chocolate muffins is great for General Mills' and Starbucks' bottom line, but it's a poor start for your day. 2. "I'm going to exercise after work" will fall through. Morning = more feasible

Managers: proofreading a document that's going up to senior executives? Focus on checking every number, date, and time against an external reliable source. Execs will forgive a misspelled word. But the wrong numbers, date, or time will lead to planning errors & loss of face.

@ZacSmall_ There was a several year period when I had to study astronomy 101 to be able to answer the kids questions. "How close is the nearest star after the sun?"..."How long would it take to get there on a spaceship?"

@ReevesWriter Knowing what illness a loved one is facing does reduce stress a bit. Yes, it is upsetting to have the illness. But at least you know what you're facing and there's more of a sense of how to deal with it.

At an interview with a table of executives you don't know across from you? Make no assumptions about who's in charge. The stylishly-dressed, youngest one may be the decision-maker, and the silver-haired guy in immaculate suit may be a last-minute substitute. Address them all.

An old corporate tradition in Japan if a manager is facing challenges is to move their desk to the shop floor, so they are immersed in the work of their team. They see the bottlenecks, administrative delays, and morale problems first hand.

Kudos to brothers exploring 100% sobriety. I am trying to chart a moderate middle path, so that I can still enjoy a glass of wine at a weekend dinner and a beer with a pal: two drink maximum per week. This may not work for you if two drinks becomes six and a vodka chaser.

@cmwalker When I was a kid, hardware stores used to sell tools in basic, mid-range, and pro quality tiers and price points. This made it easy. Brushing rust paint on your yard shovel? Get basic brush. Painting your master bathroom? Get the fancy brush.

Marketing tip: Too many choices causes decision fatigue. So whenever your pricing, blog post, etc gives many options, you'll lose conversions. Fewer options, more cash.

Do you have a manipulative, pushy pal (MPP)? Gain a superpower with one word. No explanations, no complex script: "No" Here's examples: MPP: "Yeah, so no car rental places have cars on the lot today. I need to get your car for the weekend. I'm coming in ten minutes..." "No"

Do you know a recently separated parent or have a lonely, isolated pal? Invite them for a coffee or a meal. Even the offer will lift their spirits. If they attend, listen without offering advice. Reflect what you heard them say. Feed them. Tell them you care about them.

The suicide rates are highest this month. If you know someone who's lonely invite them over for dinner. You might just save a life.
