DO YOU LIVE NEAR THE RED LINES? This is the @SWBNewOrleans map for its oldest water mains. The red represents lines 100+ years old. We're taking a closer look on @FOX8NOLA after a string of water main breaks in recent weeks.

City Council Core (SWBNO edition) We had a lot of questions for SWBNO at yesterday's Joint Utilities and Public Works Meeting, and they didn't have a lot of answers. This isn't acceptable. instagram.com/p/DWE91FQkZTQ/

@FixNOLA @SWBNewOrleans I was listening to @BayouMamaBears (I think it was) on Moon Griffon this morning & she said renters are being told they aren't covered because they don't own the place. So,one renter had their landlord call to claim damage & she was told she can't because she didn't live there.

"Are you responsible? Are you going to fix the damage to my house?" A disgusted homeowner asks @SWBNewOrleans if they're going to pay for the damage that he suffered because of their negligence. [Video from WWL-TV]

Because we rely on tourists to significantly contribute to our economy and they have choices as to where they visit. Additionally, among them are prospective residents. Former residents' opinions are particularly valuable for similar reasons that companies value exit surveys. People who were invested in our city and understood it intimately chose to leave. Why they left and how we can improve are important to know. It does not "dilute" anyone else's viewpoint. We're capable of welcoming and evaluating perspectives from a wide range of people.

@FixNOLA @SWBNewOrleans Why do they deserve input? Why does the input of actual locals 'deserve' to be diluted by those with no skin in the game? Are you not understanding that?

@goobtub @SWBNewOrleans Deserve input, yes. Automatically deemed "more important" (your phrase) than resident and former resident concerns?... No. That's where you're misunderstanding.

@FixNOLA @SWBNewOrleans ??? You literally were arguing that non-residents who contribute nothing deserve input which does nothing but dilute the input of those who actually live here, pay taxes, and actually know the real issues (ie non-crime, like our water mains). Not sure I can help you.

I never argued that non-residents' issues are more important than residents' issues. In that thread, I was saying that we shouldn't ignore concerns from people just because they don't live here — particularly former residents who have an understanding of the city and were invested in it, but chose to leave. You seem to be misreading everything that I write. Not sure I can help you.

@FixNOLA @SWBNewOrleans Not to be combative but it really caught me off guard to see the guy who's been dismissing my issues with the city prioritizing crime and non-residents posting something that affects only residents.

@FixNOLA @SWBNewOrleans It's literally been your argument about the city for the last few years, that everything else can wait. You've argued we need crime lower so people will moved here while I argued we need to make the city livable for those who actually live here. Feel free to clarify.

@FixNOLA @SWBNewOrleans Kind of ironic coming from you after years of saying the only issue in this city that deserves attention is crime to the detriment of EVERY OTHER issue. jfc my dude

@wmcintyre84 @SWBNewOrleans @CityOfNOLA Will definitely be expensive. But we aren’t even in a position to receive money, let alone search for it. Who would trust this local government in this shape to spend anything appropriately and achieve results?

"You've destroyed every thought we ever had about living in New Orleans." Heartbreaking. And infuriating. People are at their wits end with @SWBNewOrleans and @CityOfNOLA. LA's most iconic city cannot keep failing. When do we finally see a #lalege caucus to fix New Orleans?

@wmcintyre84 @SWBNewOrleans @CityOfNOLA New Orleans local govt is so broken, we need lawmakers to get together and figure out ways to fix it. Structural fixes, accountability measures added, performance metrics with consequences… There aren’t enough guardrails in place to prevent constant, catastrophic failure here.

Why would a defendant NOT want a jury of their peers? ⚖ GIST: Louisiana lawmakers are debating Senate Bill 97 that would require both prosecutors and defendants to agree before a jury trial can be waived, thus shifting how criminal cases are handled statewide. The bill would force a 2027 vote. Supporters say it brings LA in line with federal standards and ensures all evidence is presented, but critics warn it concentrates power in prosecutors’ hands and risks limiting defendants’ rights to a faster verdict. This issue is especially urgent in New Orleans, where a 2025 watchdog report alleged that Judge Leon Roche oversaw at least 16 so-called “fake” trials (cases where prosecutors presented no witnesses or evidence, yet defendants were acquitted). Similar concerns have been raised about other court sections pointing to a broader systemic problem. NOPJF went to Baton Rouge last year to ensure officers were not blamed for the trials or used as scapegoats. It's more than a procedural issue...once a defendant is found “not guilty” in those trials, double jeopardy prevents retrial - meaning individuals accused of serious crimes like violence, drugs, and burglary face no legal consequences. This undermined victims’ rights to justice, erased accountability, and put the public at risk of repeat offenses. The proposed legislation by Sen. @JayJaymorris3 appears to prevent this exact scenario by ensuring trials cannot proceed without meaningful participation from both sides. By closing the loophole that allowed “trial in name only,” this legislative session with its related bills could restore integrity to the justice system, protect victims, and rebuild public trust in New Orleans courts. 💫 For 30 years, the NOPJF has worked to create a safer New Orleans by helping to train, retain, and sustain local law enforcement - including advanced detective training, Officer Assistance Program support, and Digital Forensics hardware. 🫡@nopdnews #nola #thinblueline #backtheblue #wednesdaywisdom

Good police work (Ie, taking violent people off the street) requires uses of force. It, however, does not look politically correct on paper. Additionally, posting the numerous unfounded complaints made against officers (a common defense atty tactic) paints an incorrect and unjust picture.
