I can’t wait to see more news like this, especially in other fields like medicine
OpenAI@OpenAI
Today, we share a breakthrough on the planar unit distance problem, a famous open question first posed by Paul Erdős in 1946. For nearly 80 years, mathematicians believed the best possible solutions looked roughly like square grids. An OpenAI model has now disproved that belief, discovering an entirely new family of constructions that performs better. This marks the first time AI has autonomously solved a prominent open problem central to a field of mathematics.

@BrendanFoody Wouldn't that invite all kinds of noise?
English

@kimmyjongeats I would listen to them with fewer ad hominem attacks
English

@FlintCasey Tesla shills are not just annoying, they're also super-dumb. Sorry for your pain.
English

@JCChristopher Absolutely fascinating how easily triggered people are on this topic
English

@FlintCasey I have to give it to you Casey, you know how to get engagement. Hope this was worth it. Is rent due this Friday?
English

@NickRogers00 @battleangelviv It was a couple of months since I took a ride so I assume it was v14!
English

@FlintCasey @battleangelviv yeah this tech is going to save so many lives that we genuinely need more of it from more folks
on the latest hardware 4/FSD version? Around v14 in ~November my FSD drives started beating out my waymo ones in smoothness/reliability
English

@NickRogers00 @battleangelviv I’m a huge fan of self driving capabilities, I’ve just had much better experiences with Waymo than Tesla (even recently)
English

@battleangelviv @FlintCasey FSD just saved a cyclist and avoided a head-on collision... hard to tell from the clip, but everything was so instant. offsetting for the cyclist that appeared around the curve, breaking harder and resetting in the lane for the oncoming cars. faster than my own reflexes
English

@SinaHartung I feel like it’s been off for years now. I think they made the batches too large
English

Did someone say lidar? Here comes the Tesla stans 😅

How far away are we from being able to buy something like a Waymo? And I’m not talking about Tesla because I don’t trust their Autopilot. I want that lidar
English

@FlintCasey Actually those are just autonomy devotees. If you’re noticing a trend that they’re almost exclusively Tesla owners, it sounds like you’re misunderstanding what that pattern means.
English

@FlintCasey That’s cause you deserve it. We are not devoted to Elon, we are devoted to moving the future forward. So don’t get in the way of progress. The hypersonic tsunami is on its way.
English

@chewbacapalapa Have tried v14! It doesn’t have to do with Elon
English

@FlintCasey If you don’t trust their autopilot because you haven’t tried FSD v14, try FSD v14.
If you don’t trust their autopilot because Elon Bad, go fuck yourself.
Hopefully it’s the former.
English

@xqybyt When I go to the profiles, they look extremely distinct from my followers and the people I interact with here, so I don’t think it’s that
English

@FlintCasey he makes cool stuff and the venn diagram of your followers to people who are trying to achieve similar things is basically a single circle
English

@heyruchir Thank you for answering my question! I doubt legacy auto makers will do the work by themselves, I imagine they will use OEMs or even license the capability from some self driving companies
English

@FlintCasey probably around 3-5 years. Problem is that no legacy auto maker has the ability to scale up training + long tail of self driving.
just adding lidar won't make it as good as waymo + waymo costs > 200k so it'll take another few years to get the costs down.
English

@AhoyChunk I should’ve said FSD! Most recently tried it two months ago
English

@FlintCasey Have you tried Autopilot or FSD? Because if you’ve tried Autopilot only, you’re basing your jugement on a 5+ years old tech.
