Phase 2 of the 2024 @ResearchDolphin field season is underway with a new base set up on the remote Dirk Harthog Island. With brilliant weather, we have thoroughly explored this new + stunning field site. Meeting new dolphins, tiger sharks, dugongs + turtles, is a very happy team!

Field work is always great but it is even greater with good company! Looking back on a wonderful two weeks of the BIO341 field course @UZH_Science where students learned how to conduct boat-based research and got to experience what field work with @ResearchDolphin

We are celebrating 40 years of research on the #Gathaagudu #SharkBay dolphins 🥳, founded by Richard Connor and Rachel Smolker in 1982. SBDR has shed important light on male cooperation, cultural evolution, dolphin ecology + communication @UZH_Science @BristolBioSci @BiolSci_UWA

Our field teams are now in full swing in both the eastern and western gulfs of Shark Bay, conducting a number of research projects on dolphin ecology and behaviour. Check out these amazing colours (and a few feathered friends) 😎🐬

And our 2022 field season is underway!🥳 Our team have arrived in #SharkBay #Gathaagudu to kick things off and we have many exciting months ahead with all four PIs, 8 PhD students and 1 Masters student heading to the field this year. Watch this space for lots of 🐬🐬🐬 updates!
