@therealarod1984 @SouthwestAir What a mess. You'd think they'd have planned and workshopped this for a few months so they'd be ready ? Clearly not.

A terrible, dangerous process and a liability issue that has to be fixed - Deplaning a @SouthwestAir assigned seating flight. If you read below, I described the enplaning process and the chaos of mismatched seating assignments to overhead bins as part of a short series of posts on the change at Southwest to Assigned Seating. Well, deplaning was even worse. People in front rows were trying to either force their way back the wrong direction or they were asking people 3 and 4 rows back to get their luggage and pass it forward. Luggage was crowd surfing down the aisle and maybe that sounds fun, but the minute a bag falls on someone, its potential injury and a potential lawsuit. Not to mention it took forever to get off the plane. And it was chaos. Two ways to solve it: As I stated in the thread below, a better system to match boarding groups to seat assignments. Figure out how the other airlines do it. Or 8 groups, 30 rows, thats 8 groups of 4 rows. If you purchased/are assigned seats in Rows 1-4, you get Group 1. Rows 5-8, Group 2, etc. Otherwise this nonsense of someone sitting in Row 7 getting Group 4, showing up to their seat and all the bins are closed so you head back 5-10 rows to find a bin and then try to go against traffic to get to your seat.... Not only is it slowing your enplaning process and costing you $$$, but the deplaning process is a liability problem for the airline... Second way to help is to be very explicit with instructions on the flight about sitting in your seat until the crowd thins out and you can start to safely make your way back to your bag. That doesn't solve the enplaning problem though... #Southwest #assignedseating

Day 1 of @SouthwestAir assigned seating and I happen to be flying: Fourth: Two things: Family Boarding is no more. Duh. And if you are sitting in an exit row, you have to be cleared at the customer service desk. 4/n #Southwest

Day 1 of @SouthwestAir assigned seating and I happen to be flying: Fifth: Boarding is slow. Came to a standstill after group 3 for several minutes. Were not going to be close to making this happen in 30 minutes, will be late departing by 10-15 min it appears 5/n #Southwest
