Paris: I'd urge you to read our piece if you have not. The thrust of Mr. Shay's essay was to point out, correctly, how the Pulitzer board honored a narrative rather than journalism. This, I believe, demonstrated how the Pulitzer Prize has been rendered meaningless. Our criticism denies no one at the Tribune their right to celebrate what they consider a joyous milestone. Furthermore, I do not believe our criticism is immature. OT: You recently agreed to appear on our podcast. I sent a DM with our e-mail. I did not hear back. I expect you to join us later this year when we discuss Chicago media.

Keep CFD in mind tonight. We've learned this fire in Goose Island was horrible and a "Mayday" call was issued. Though it is unconfirmed, we're told one, perhaps two, CFD were forced to jump from windows to escape the blaze. Thank you, Chicago Firefighters.

According to a CPD source, crime — specifically gang crime — has dropped in Little Village over the past few weeks. Police say the presence of ICE has Latin Kings and the Two Six retreating from gang activity for fear their illegal members will be arrested and deported. While gangs have withdrawn from gang activity, they are not absent from the neighborhood. Our CPD sources say numerous Latin Kings and Two Six gang members are active in "Rapid Response Teams" harassing ICE in Little Village.

We've decided to revisit this $3M payout to a gang member to keep the matter in the public consciousness and to direct ire at @mattoshea19. A little over a year ago, after an illegal street takeover at 103rd and California, Mr. O'Shea responded to furious residents by arranging for a speed camera to be installed near Saint John Fisher Parish. Note to Mr. O'Shea: A speed camera does nothing to thwart street takeovers. At the time, Mr. O'Shea lauded the speed camera as an effective tool to protect SJF kids. We'd like to ask Mr. O'Shea if a speed camera was his solution to a street takeover, why extoll the virtue of camera as an improvement to the safety of SJF pupils? Furthermore, if the camera was placed to protect SJF students, then why wasn't it installed earlier in your tenure? These are fair questions, Alderman O'Shea, because we believe you deliberately misled 19th Ward residents. However, what you did by casting a vote in favor of awarding $3M to a drug dealer and Satan Disciple gang member was far worse than your lethargic response to a street takeover. No, this vote was devastating. Your vote to hand over $3M in constituent tax dollars to a gang member was a staggering betrayal of your entire ward. Having long lost sight of the responsibilities of an alderman, we will remind you your primary duty is to represent the best interests of your residents. At this, you have failed miserably. It's been nearly three years since we stopped asking ourselves why you have assumed certain political positions, cast certain votes, and remained silent on important matters on the Council floor. It took us a while, but we finally learned what many of 19th Ward residents have known for years. You, Mr. O'Shea, are driven only by the desire for self-preservation. Doubtlessly, your vote to turn over $3M to an armed gang member who fled CPD was performed to pander to the woke dopes in Beverly and to indulge Chicago's incompetent mayor in exchange for preserving your plum chairmanship of the meaningless Aviation Cmte. With this vote, you tore the pretense you are an unyielding supporter of CPD to shreds and revealed yourself to be an arch-betraying Judas. Ald. O'Shea: You can continue wearing a CPD Memorial vest around your ward or hosting the Behind the Vest breakfasts, but your vote to gift $3M to a drug dealer and gang member was an act in which you surrendered any legitimate claim you are a friend to Chicago Police.

Do-it-yourself journalism outfit Block Club is at it again, practicing nauseating, activist writing. In another deeply misleading and at times outright dishonest article, the dung heap of Chicago journalism smears CPD in fatal shooting of an armed thug, Nate Fejerang. Block Club claims it is not clear why Fejerang was stopped by CPD. CPD was conducting a drug investigation and spotted Fejerang in the drug operation. Block Club asserts the "gun went off." Fejerang was armed and shot a CPD. Only after Fejerang shot a CPD did CPD return fire, killing him. Block Club also implies CPD pulled Fejerang's pants down while he was on the ground. This is pure fiction. One of the reasons CPD was able to catch up to Fejerang — besides the undeniable fact Fejerang was a fat slob — is his pants were already down and it slowed his attempted flight from police. Block Club also attempts to portray Fejerang as some sort-of lovable neighborhood kid. If Block Club had bothered to publish a work of journalism, it would have revealed Fejerang had a criminal past and a juvenile record. Block Club sucks.
