@thatbilloakley You maybe had quark in blintzes. It's traditional in Jewish foods like that and cheese knishes and kreplach. Though for practical reasons in America people often use farmer's cheese (or pot cheese) which is slightly drier.

@andrewlevine @nick_field90 I think you're right, I apologize. I had seen that package and I was under the impression it was the 80s retro bar. Although I do believe Pink Panther was still earlier since I read after I tweeted earlier that it had an earlier release in the UK.

Legit Question: Anybody know when the first novelty ice cream based on an IP character hit the market?

@andrewlevine @nick_field90 From what I read the 1975 bar was made by a company called Gold Bond Ice Cream (later acquired by Good Humor). I can't find a picture of the Mickey bar but apparently they were oval and stamped, I imagine like these later bars the company made for the WWF.

@Flother2 @nick_field90 This Disney fan site says the “Mouseketeer Bar” (which was shaped like Mickey’s head) was first licensed in 1975 — d23.com/ask-dave/samue…

@nick_field90 Then the Pink Panther (1977) is said to be the first shaped treat. I was surprised because I would have guessed it was Mickey Mouse heads since they're simpler silhouettes but apparently those didn't debut until later.

English

@nick_field90 It depends how you define it. It looks like the first IP product was the Zoom (1963), shaped (loosely) like the Fireball XL5 rocket. Later character-themed themed (but not shaped) treats were next, with the Thunderbirds' Lady Penelope (1967) seems to have been first there.

@EmmaTolkin I recently learned that Paul Simon sued them over the Pufnstuf theme song because it closely resembled The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy). I noticed the resemblance as a child but it was pre-internet so I was unable to confirm it until this month.

@AGoldmund I seem to recall Henny Youngman had some jokes that would agree with you.
