I've been a Mets fan since day one in 1962. And what David Stearns has done to my team is baseball malpractice.
Few issues:
--If Stearns ran one of Steve Cohen's hedge funds into the ground as he's done with the Mets, is there any chance he would still be employed? He symbolizes everything wrong with baseball as analytics have ruined the game.
--Stearns didn't want to give Pete Alonso a five-year contract ostensibly because he feared the last two years would be wasting Cohen's money. Funny then that halfway through his own five-year $50 million contract that Stearns has never at any point lived up to his deal.
--The downfall of the Mets has been pitching but Stearns elected to rip the heart out of this team (Alonso, Nimmo) while the pitching staff got worse with Stearns playing the analytics game.
--Run prevention was Stearns theme of the offseason. How has that worked out? Six infield errors the other night. Bringing in Bichette and Polanco (he's missed most of the year) and playing them out of position. That's his idea of run prevention?
--Signing players with injury histories (Polanco, Robert) and expecting that to change. Both missed almost the entire first half of this mess.
--I'm sure I could have done a better job than Stearns to this point. I know I couldn't have done worse.
