This is what happens when parish pump politics rule. Case in point, the Healy-Rae family in Kerry. You end up with members of the same family elected into government. All feathering their own nest. This has all been facilitated by our elected politicians WITHOUT consulting the people that are ultimately paying the price (in every way). So, ask yourself why are our politicians allowing this?? One word... VOTES Actually, it's 2 words VOTES & MONEY The Irish people are sick of the shit they have to put up with and witness on a daily basis. Crooked politicians will do anything to get voted back into office, even going as far a ruining their own country and lands. And if they can make millions off the back of that it's a "win win". Every migrate is a potential new voter. Your politician knows that - and they need to stake their claim - and welcome them in, feed them, house them, "Sure why wouldn't you vote for me now?? Look at everything I have done for you" However, that will only last so long. The new arrivals will eventually demand to have their own representation in government. Then it's game over. While 99% of the Irish people are distracted working themselves to the bone - to pay ever increasing costs (food, transport, energy, taxes, etc) Our politicians are busy securing their next 4 years in a "recession-proof" talking heads job - it's an absolute joke. All politicians should be forced to walk down the streets of the capital and their local town every few months to get a sense of how the public feel about them.
