Spending the afternoon here at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, in rural Virginia. Stunning, and a wonderfully placed hilltop Palladian structure. As with Washington’s Mount Vernon, what still surprises me is how relatively small it is compared to Europe’s ‘great houses’.
