Homelessness can be solved if the right policies and political are in place. While we welcomed much of the Govt's new housing strategy, it will be judged by results. State must deliver more 1 & 4 bed homes to speed up exits for families & individuals trapped in homelessness.

Focus Ireland says it's heartbreaking that new figures issued today show a record number of 5,274 children will be homeless this Christmas, for many it will be their second or even third year.  Children who are homeless are having their childhoods stolen one day at a time.  This is wrong and we can – and must – end this human crisis.

New figures from the Department of Housing report a record 16,766 people were homeless in October, including 5,274 children in 2,484 families. This is a rise marks a 12% increase over the past year.  Child homelessness has shot up by 14% in the same period.

Our CEO Pat Dennigan said: "Focus Ireland is fully committed to working with the Minister, the Dept & local government to deliver the aspirations that he has set out, but we'll remain true to Sr Stan's legacy by insisting that soft words are followed by decisive action ."

We also welcomed the engagement of the Minister & dept with Focus Ireland in drafting  ‘Delivering Homes, Building Communities 2025 – 2030’, and noted that a number of the evidence-based policies which we have been arguing for over many years are reflected in the new plan. 2/3

Focus Ireland welcomed the Government’s new housing plan but warned that, after years of missed targets and rising homelessness, people facing homelessness will judge the plan by results. 1/2

Tomorrow Wednesday the 12th of November our 6th LCA class will host a Bake sale to raise money for focus Ireland, they will also be selling hot chocolate and daffodil pins to raise money for the Irish cancer society, all support from fellow students will be greatly appreciated
