This is crazy. It’s averaging one every 5 minutes or less now. Some hits are so loud, I’m sure they’re trying to bust into the house, like in The Birds. I’m scared to even look now. This has never happened before. I don’t get it. Sooo many. 🫤

I was invited to be one of the reenactors at the Wyse Fork Battlefield Anniversary Tour in Kinston, North Carolina this weekend. The Battle of Wyse Fork (also known as the Battle of Kinston, the Second Battle of Kinston, or the Battle of Southwest Creek) was a key engagement in the final weeks of the American Civil War, fought March 7–10, 1865, in Lenoir County, North Carolina. I’m so excited to have a reason to wear my Civil War era dress, meet other reenactors, and honor North Carolina history!

Besides being a lover of photography and history, I thoroughly enjoy creating symbolic art. This was a collaborative Joan of Arc piece I created several years ago. Joan herself was painted in oil by artist Dana Mario Wood. I created her armor out of paper. For the breastplate, I used The Last Supper. I printed multiple layers of the image on card stock and stacked them to create depth and dimension before incorporating them into the painting. I also added gold leaf around her neck, forming a crown of gold. To me it symbolizes her heroism and the honor she earned through her faith and sacrifice. Christ sits at the center of the breastplate beneath celestial skies, which felt fitting for Joan’s story. She believed her mission came from Him, and she ultimately gave her life for that calling. Faith was her armor. Conviction was her strength.
