@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 My reading is fine. Your ability to track entailments seems a bit impaired, though.
English

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 You seem to be having trouble reading. Perhaps you have no time for it?
English

There’s no doubt that we humans are hardwired to believe in a higher power. Atheists only make up a small percentage of the world population and yet they want to tell the rest of us that we’re suffering from mass delusion. They need to check themselves.

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 I'm done answering your silly questions on this one. You can't jump on the rake with both feet and just play it off. "Oh God can't create without this and it doesn't do anything" lol!

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 A superior ground of being? What does that mean? Are there more Gods? Imagine God is the only thing in existence. Nothing else. What happens next, why and how?
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 Here I'll give an argument for why God is the superior ground of being. Ready? He doesn't do "nothing" lol. He's heroic and stuff, too. Your necessary ground of cause and effect does... nothing?? Can it make a really big BANG sound at least???
English

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 To do anything requires time. If there was no time, nothing would happen.
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 But okay time doesn't do anything so God naturally doesn't require it to do something. Surely even you can see that?
English

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 It's a dimension. There are also three spatial dimensions. They don't "do" anything. Everything that happens in the universe happens within those dimensions. You take a step and it covers roughly a meter in one dimension and takes a finite time to execute.
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 Oh so if time doesn't do anything then in what sense is it required for causation? No mechanism at all but it's a prerequisite? Are you becoming a metaphysician here? Are you going to leave me any of my own positions or do you intend to steal all of them?
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 Fine. I'm changing sides. That's not true, Mike! You're confusing the action with the actor or whatever you said before you stole my line!
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 Whoa whoa whoa whoa. So it's continuous causes and effects ie the causation is concurrent with the effects?? You're stealing my bit!
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 Then what is it? You say it's required. Fine. Why? What is the time DOING? Provide a mechanism
English

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 Time is required for cause and effect. Everything that happens does so through cause and effect. It's not meaningless.
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 So you want to know how God can exist outside of time but causes are just the first operator in cause/effect, per you.
Uh-oh
English

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 Because effects of a cause follow the cause. You know this. What is the point of your asking these questions?
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 You observe time???? Can I see it???
English

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 That's reality, as observed and measured.
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 What about the flowing allows for causes and effects???
English

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 It flows, from cause to effect. Surely, you know this?
English

@MartinTweats What if I questioned on the way in and I'm satisfied with where I've arrived? Is there a time limit for questioning or maybe some measure of "enough" questions? Do I need to be able to answer all of the questions I've asked? Can I content myself with 50%?
🤷
English

Low intelligence is refusing to question any position, be it theism or atheism.
God Questioner@God_Questioner
Do we agree?
English

@nzmkroberts @TheHistoryGuy07 How does time allow for cause and effect? What does time do?
English

@Footofthepath @TheHistoryGuy07 I'm surprised you need to ask anyone. Of course time exists. That's how we have cause then effect.
English

@AleMartnezR1 explanation you'd probably wonder how well I knew the man. None of these make me want to know anything about God that isn't just taxonomy
English

@AleMartnezR1 I'll grant you the form and the validity of this and just ask: so what? If I was relating a childhood story and had occasion to explain my dad to you I wouldn't give a syllogism. I'd tell you about him. If I did get into some "I'm a man all men have fathers ergo.."
English

1. If it were possible for God not to exist, then God would be no different from creatures in their contingency.
2. God is different from creatures in their contingency.
Therefore, is not possible for God not to exist

Martin@MartinTweats
Assume I'm a blank slate. I have no doxastic state on God either way. Convince me of whether God does or doesn't exist. #God
English

@GamZokanti @Ernest1588761 They have a really weird pitch: they want the Christian to give up God for... nothing. "Because critical thinking and its true and you should be free of your delusions!" is all they've got but do they seem happy? They're pretty joyless. If that's freedom I'll pass.
English

I can understand why Christians and Muslims proselytize; it's in their How-To Handbooks; that's fine.
But why are atheists proselytizing here? Are you suggesting that society would be better off without religion? The Soviet Union and the French Revolution tried that; are you satisfied with the results?
