@ForTheSpiders I hope to someday record a truly bizarre head shape such as W. acuminata or P. ludicrum. But no luck so far!

Now Diplocephalus picinus may be small in size (<2mm). But on the hand it boasts
-an extra head on top of the ol’ nugget,
-bearded forehead,
-sweet, sweet perfume oozing out from behind the eyes.
If that’s not perfection I don’t know what is!

@ForTheSpiders @sderkarabetian @wizards_magic Where can I join you? Do you have a discord or something like this? ^^

Sci-comm at its finest! @sderkarabetian
and I just published a systematic study of arachnids in the Magic: The Gathering card game (@wizards_magic). We discuss the evolution of spiders and other arachnids across the multiverse! Check it out: virginianaturalhistorysociety.com/wp-content/upl…

@ForTheSpiders @sderkarabetian @wizards_magic Oh wonderful Marc ! I began to write a paper about the "extinction" of spiders in video games. Do you want to join me? ^^I searched a specialist ^^
English

@CaterinoLab So much delicious diversity for my linyphiids to munch on! Great work, Mike and colleagues!

Springtailing into the New Year, a study with undergraduate researcher Kailyn Shealy was published over the break, exploring inter- and intraspecific diversity in high Appalachian Entomobryomorpha.

Today our paper was published on the decline of taxonomic expertise, using the example of Hungary, based on several lines of evidence. It is open access in Biodiversity and Conservation.

New post! Invasive species are often a top conservation threat. That's why news out of Japan is getting a lot of attention. Amami-Oshima just became the largest island in the world to completely remove an invasive predator. Learn how they did it. indianapoliszoo.com/gcss/blog/cons…

@TimothyJonas Ohh if I was a linyphiid I'd be salivating right now! 😆

I was lucky enough to sit down with @ProtectSpecies at the @IndianapolisZoo to talk about spider conservation for a few minutes. It was a fun time, and I encourage you to give it a listen!
Global Center for Species Survival@ProtectSpecies
New episode! This week, we talk with Dr. Marc Milne (@ForTheSpiders) about spiders. The web of life is complex, and spiders are a key part! Whether predator or prey, all ecosystems need spiders. Listen to @ProtectSpecies wherever you get your podcasts. 1/

@Jess_inthewild You must be exhausted from having to say these things over and over. Thank you for doing it, though. Keep up the good fight. ✊

Very few bites; LOTS of euthanized animals because of Unqualified People Trying To Raise/Keep Wildlife, aka exactly what this guy did. I am vaccinated, but guess what - a rabies vaccine is not 100% effective, & I have had to get boosters after bites.
Mason@webdevMason
@GovernorAnne @Jess_inthewild Ask her how many bites she's experienced as a wildlife rehabilitator, and how many animals she has had euthanized in order to perform a necropsy for testing

@MondaySpider @AAS_arachnology Please do! I'm happy to help. 🙂
English

@ForTheSpiders @AAS_arachnology I joined AAS! Thanks for your offer! I’m probably going to send some ID questions to you now that I am back home and continue going through summer’s Liny samples… 😅

For the last day of #Arachtober, let's talk about Wubana.
Wubana is one of those interesting linyphiid genera that - even though it's not an erigonine - has significant male carapace modifications, mainly a large, forward-facing macrosetae just behind the eyes.

English

@MondaySpider Aw man, missed you by just a week?! Another time, then!
English

@ForTheSpiders Wow! I was in Blacksburg last week! (I gave a talk at the applied math seminar of Virginia Tech.) But now back in Helsinki, Finland. Almost had a chance to say hello to you in person! 😃
English

@MondaySpider Great find! Tenuiphantes zebra is another possibility, but check van Helsdingen 1963 and Zorsch 1937.
English

Found a pretty Linyphiid lady in Fort Collins, Colorado, by sifting leaf litter. This is a Tenuiphantes sp.
The pattern is similar to Tenuiphantes tenebricola I often see in Finland. But I think it’s another species.
Thanks to @ForTheSpiders for ID help and collecting advice!

English

@ForTheSpiders I've tried a lot of stuff and I'm unsatisfied of most socials personnally, except for Reddit and Discord where I manage an arachnology server if that may be of interest to you :)

#Arachtober 30th is Walckenaeria day, so get ready!
Walckenaeria is a the second largest linyphiid genus in North America, with 68 species. There are 199 species in the world! As you can imagine, there are many diverse forms in Walckenaeria. I'll explain a few.
