@ed_hagen Good observation, but stay tuned for our sex-based dietary analysis of the SMP and WMP populations before jumping to spurious conclusions, sensu twitter.com/ForagerLab/sta….

@sentientist No, that was not "wrong." The findings are not conflicting. Please read the primary sources more carefully. Note too that the female hunter was no more vegan than the average US American or modern foragers for whom meat also comprises about 20-30% of the diet.

The young Andean woman buried w/ hunting tools 9 kya & thought to be a big game hunter had a plant-based diet. I've annotated the key fig. & included the authors' discussion of this unexpected finding. Stable isotope chemistry reveals plant-dominant diet: journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

Opponents of "man the hunter" narrative were delighted to find a woman in Peru buried with "big-game hunting paraphernalia". They claimed that these burial artifacts meant women also engaged in big game hunting. Turns out that was wrong, she was mostly vegan.

@PattMeeples Good to see you in Portland, Matt. That map looks familiar. I spent many weeks in the hot sun mapping rocks and sherds at La Plata. Love that place.

Interesting that the FBI recently seized the Z library book repository. There was a time when you could access any article or book you wanted for free from a physical library. Now, in a digital world, its difficult without paying exorbitant costs. There has to be a better way.
