Strong women appreciate strong men! How right you are Dianna. James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser (AKA Jamie Fraser) is the best male character in modern literature. He is the perfect man. He’s strong, determined, intelligent, loyal, a man of faith, a man who will lay down his life to protect his family, and he loves only one woman. Claire in the books is his perfect match. She is strong willed, capable, intelligent, compassionate, empathetic, and comes to love only one man. There was never a reason to change their dynamic in the screen adaption, never a reason to downplay Jamie to make Claire appear a “stronger woman” when she was already strong. I have always found it baffling, and actually quite misogynistic, that male show runners and studio execs think they can describe what constitutes a strong woman better than the female author of books that have sold 10s of millions of copies, mostly to women. I’m writing this because I recently was made aware of a post from the author that is getting pummeled by a very small but very vocal part of the fandom who, according to their own comments, hate the author. Sadly, these are “fans” that STARZ and the show runners created and too often have catered to. If you have never watched Outlander, don’t worry. They did flip the narrative in the show, at times, but Sam Heughan is an incredible actor and all of the attributes of Jamie in the books comes alive every time he is on screen. Proving that no one can keep a strong and good man down.
