Today, my administration announced that 12 local nonprofit organizations have been granted $471,761 in federal funding to strengthen our fight against opioid and substance addiction. This support will provide essential care and resources across our city. I am deeply grateful to the organizations and individuals on the front lines, working every day to bring hope and help to those who need it most.

When we empower young girls and give them the confidence to succeed, there’s no limit to what they can achieve. I appreciated Denita Washington and the Girlz Rock- Fort Wayne program stopping by the Mayor’s Office yesterday for a conversation about finding your voice, your drive, and your self-worth. Their work is helping inspire the next generation of women leaders in our community.

Replacing an influential leader in a company, organization, or even a city is never easy, but it’s an opportunity to honor their legacy while creating your own path forward. I was grateful to speak with community members about what makes a good leader and to share some of the lessons I’ve learned stepping into this role following the late Mayor Tom Henry. Throughout the journey, my greatest source of guidance has been my faith.

This afternoon, I visited our 911 Call Center and witnessed firsthand the critical work our emergency dispatchers do each and every day. I was incredibly impressed by their calm, focus, and professionalism while handling difficult situations. Our dispatchers are true public servants. Fort Wayne is safer because of their dedication and commitment to protecting others.

This morning, I met with the Fort Wayne Police Department and our federal partners to learn more about how they are working together to track down violent gun offenders using advanced, proven technology and enhanced investigative resources. Our law enforcement agencies are united in their pursuit of anyone who threatens public safety. I cannot state this strongly enough: If you choose to commit gun violence in Fort Wayne, you will be identified, you will be pursued, and you will be brought to justice.

For years, Fort Wayne has been known as the “City of Churches," not just for the number of houses of worship, but for our long tradition of welcoming people of all faiths and backgrounds. Recently, I had the opportunity to host a large group of pastors and church leaders to the Mayor’s Office. We had a meaningful conversation about how faith leaders can help keep their congregations informed about immigration matters and connect families with available resources and services.

Last night, I joined the Fort Wayne City Council in recognizing Pat Stelte for 30 years of dedicated community service. Working behind the scenes, Pat has helped connect residents to city government through City TV. He has produced thousands of City Council and commission meetings, news conferences, and city programs. He has kept our community informed and engaged. Congratulations, Pat. Here’s to many more years of making a difference!

This afternoon, it was a pleasure to host a delegation from the Consul General of Canada at the Mayor’s Office. We had a productive conversation about strengthening the partnership between Canada and Fort Wayne. Before you ask, we didn’t get a chance to talk about the results from the men’s and women’s Olympic hockey games this past weekend. 😀

All residents are part of Fort Wayne’s future. This afternoon, it was a pleasure to welcome leaders from our city’s seven Burmese communities to the Mayor’s Office for an open conversation about immigration and continued collaboration.

Yesterday, we celebrated Fort Wayne’s wins together. Over the next year, we must continue investing in ourselves and in each other. We won’t always agree, but we can choose to be respectful and open to ideas that aren’t our own. I’m excited for what’s next for Fort Wayne.

Strong. That’s the State of the City of Fort Wayne. Our strength comes from you. Our residents, neighborhood leaders, elected officials, public safety professionals, small business owners, and the countless givers who serve quietly every day. You are the reason Fort Wayne continues to grow, lead, and thrive. It was an honor to share our story today and our bright future ahead. The State of our City is strong. Because of you.

Today was my final practice session for the State of the City Address. I can’t wait to share the incredible progress and momentum happening across Fort Wayne. Join me at Noon tomorrow at the Grand Wayne Convention Center. The address is open to the public. I hope to see you there. If you can’t attend in person, you can watch live on the City’s Facebook or YouTube channels. Fort Wayne’s future is bright, and together we’re building it together.

Kids make mistakes. I’m sure many of us can look back and admit we made our own mistakes as kids. But the mistakes we make at a young age do not have to define us forever. Instead, they give us an opportunity to grow and learn. This morning, I had the chance to speak with young people at the Allen County Juvenile Center. We talked about our city’s strengths and challenges, but also about hope and what comes next. I reminded them that their story is still being written, and that no matter where they are today, they have the power to shape where they go tomorrow.

Addressing homelessness is one of my top priorities and will remain so as Mayor. The City of Fort Wayne’s investment in Hillcrest Commons is a key part of our strategy to provide immediate shelter, while creating permanent housing solutions that help people rebuild stability. Thank you to everyone who made this project possible, especially our partners at the Fort Wayne Housing Authority and our Community Development team.

Today, @FortWayneMayor Sharon Tucker joined @FortWayneHA and community partners to celebrate the opening of Hillcrest Commons, a 24-unit permanent supportive housing development for adults experiencing chronic homelessness. Read more: bit.ly/46777Ph

Fort Wayne is strongest when we face challenges together. Everywhere I go, I’m hearing from residents who are feeling fear and uncertainty because of the events unfolding across our nation. There are many questions and a great deal of confusion about what local law enforcement can and cannot do when it comes to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That’s why it’s important that we come together as a community for an honest and informative conversation. Please join me this Saturday at 10 AM at the Grand Wayne Convention Center. This is an opportunity to get clear information, hear directly from local leaders, and make sure our residents feel informed and supported.

This morning, I was proud to represent Fort Wayne at the 94th @usmayors Winter Meeting. Our city was awarded a $10,000 DollarWise Innovation Grant to support student opportunities in the trades through a partnership between Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne and the @FWCommSchools Career Academy. This investment will help strengthen pathways to good-paying careers and advance economic mobility in our community.
