I was big on Mikel Brown Jr. coming into the szn. Was the clear cut guy I wanted in the draft til Acuff started wrecking shit & MBJ’s injury. He’s clearly back & healthy.

@JoeMullinax But Ja’s value can’t get lower. Jarens could. He could get injured, he could fall in a slump and then what? However I don’t love the trade we made. I feel like we could’ve done better if we shopped him around more.

My issue now, with the report of teams wanting Memphis to put picks on a Ja trade (which again, I wouldn’t have done either) is that Jaren shouldn’t have been traded. Deals for him will be better this summer using the same logic.

I disagree. There is no *need* to move Ja today. It doesn’t inhibit the rebuild as long as they move him before training camp. If a deal isn’t there today, it’s unlikely you get *worse* offers this summer, so I am fine with letting it play out.

Why would keeping Ja, now that literally everyone that was a core part of his era has been moved, make any sense for the direction they're trying to go in? And again, the value is not going to drastically shift. It's not 2022.

Another thought: The Grizzlies traded two players (Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson) who lived up to every expectation because a third player (Ja Morant) came up short. Morant's failures -- physical and otherwise -- are the primary reason the franchise has to start again.

Rival executives now believe the Grizzlies will use Ja Morant’s salary to take on bad contracts in order to receive more draft capital, per @WindhorstESPN. Morant currently holds little to no trade value around the league, but taking on unwanted salaries will sweeten offers.
