Well well, the deficit is artificial or created intentionally by the gatekeepers. The biggest challenge for Kenya is the system that tries to gatekeep the knowledge pipeline. I have examples of many Kenyans who try to do Masters and PhDs, and they get frustrated by the supervisors until they give up. Example 1: Friend A started his PhD in Kenya, his supervisor frustrated him, and in the end, he gave up and enrolled afresh in South Africa. He finished his PhD in South Africa in record time. Example 2: Friend B did her master's at UoN, finished the coursework, but when it came to research, she could not move because the supervisor refused to accept every topic she suggested and did not have time to guide her on what to do. She is still waiting to start the research three years down the line. Example 3: Go to any university in Kenya in the run-up to graduation and see how many people are lining up in the department and registrar offices, then moving away cussing because of the missing marks. It is really a messed-up system.

Kenya is facing a PhD deficit that is affecting the rollout of the human capital necessary to drive development through science, research and innovation. the-star.co.ke/news/2026-03-2…

If you’re from Narok, Kajiado, Samburu, Laikipia, or Marsabit counties and hold a degree in Political Science, Communication, Social Development, or Finance, I’d love to connect with you. John F. Kennedy was one of America's best speechwriters, and his secret weapon was a rhetorical trick called Chiasmus. Some examples: 1) "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." 2) "Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind." 3) "Let us never negotiate out of fear, but let us never fear to negotiate." All of these follow the same pattern. The lesson is that humans love symmetry. Both in buildings like the Taj Mahal or St. Paul's Cathedral, and with language when we have symmetrical sentences like the ones JFK used to use so often.

Mondo Duplantis is definitely one of the greatest athletes alive. Up there with Kipchoge, Messi, CR7, Bolt, LeBron and Serena. He's absolutely in this elite tier of active athletes. He has dominated pole vaulting at an almost absurd level.

@YunglePever As long as an identity is higher status than competing identities then it will spread. For a lot of downtrodden folks such as poor Africans & low caste south Asians adopting Islam improves your status by giving you better social capital & the chance to be part of something big

@Asaphjay @walubengovich Can't remember whether it was the Omani Minister for Trade or the Ambassador to Kenya, but the dude was speaking flawlessly in Kiswahili on a state visit. Kiswahili Sanifu. Saw a similar video from Tz during Magufuli's rule.

@SonOfKurgat I've checked na ninaona pia huko Namibia na Botswana mtindo ni ule ule. the Ovambo, Kavango, and Caprivi are concentrated in areas along the Okavango and Zambezi rivers. In Botswana, the Tswana are concentrated in the eastern corridor in the Okavango Delta and Chobe Reserve.

@YunglePever Interesting. I'll read up on Oman. I've only interacted with limited literature on Sultan Qaboos's modernization reforms.

@FourthArchetype Yup. They've never left power and have been since 1700s. The current Sultan is a Busaidi.
