Isn’t the main difference that you are laying there naked, bleeding, milk leaking, and your own mother has seen you naked and it’s your own bloodline but your inlaws it would be way more awkward and inappropriate? Why is waiting an extra 24 hours until you go home and are dressed, settled in, etc. for them to come see the baby a huge deal ?
Taryn@TarynA83

Ladies. I am telling you this right now. Your husband’s family matters when you have a baby. You can say they aren’t allowed in for delivery. You can ask for limited time visits. You can ask for your husband to entertain and introduce the baby if you want to stay in bed. BUT- asking his parents/grandparents to wait to meet them while you let your family in is cruel and selfish. EVEN IF they might annoy you, or his mom is an attention hog, your baby is just as much your husband’s. Your recovery needs matter, but alienating them is wrong.

@formidableyoung This may be a hot take but I feel like the navi were just meant to represent how indigenous people were colonized and less so the culture itself. Or atleast I hope given how much of culture it gets wrong

if yall really wanna talk about the way that avatar fans treat indigenous people we can start at the amount of yall who see indigenous people as a monolith that you can pick and choose “aesthetics” from 💭

@Foxfire240461 @Ey_lanira the navi dictionary isn't my resource, its the creators site- where he updates with new words, expressions etc. Since 2009 he has not ever eluded to genitalia or the swear words i mentioned

@gourdy_642 @Ey_lanira The navi dictionary is far from comeplete and doesn't include many words. It is not safe to assume they don't exist. The words for fire and ash weren't made until movie 3, they still existed

@Foxfire240461 @Ey_lanira creator of the na'vi language hasn't released these words, but considering we're like 16/17 years after the first movie and still no confirmation of these words I think it's safe to assume they must not exist

@gourdy_642 @Ey_lanira How do you know? It not being jn the official dictionary doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Same with the other words. Kiri calling loak penis face is actually evidence that those words do exist

@Ey_lanira also anytime a na'vi uses a swear word or human saying- it makes sense for Norm or the Sullys but Tsireya and Ao'nung shouldn't be saying bitch, shit or fuck, same with Ronal. there's Na'vi equivalents

She’s not a liar but Cameron was open about using her likeness for the concept of translating a real person’s features to Na’vi facial structure not that she was the basis for Neytiri in the film itself. All the Na’vi and Avatar characters are based on their actor’s features
telepathique@TimDraks

Stan culture needs to be razed to the ground because an indigenous woman has literal evidence (as do we) via James Cameron’s confession that her likeness was used for neytiri’s character and everyone’s calling her a liar to defend his sci-fi project

Well, lens distortion is really an in-camera optical effect, not editing, but if we are assuming purely physical techniques, you could have used lens distortion for the face and prosthetics for the ears and eyes. The problem is that she would have been pretty much the only actor who consistently looked Na’vi without CGI. And there’s the rub. Without CGI, there is no Na’vi, only Q'orianka Kilcher, and that does not scale to an entire production and story world. Anyways, I do not want to beat this to death since I am doing a video on it, but my understanding is that Q’orianka was the muse for the Na’vi, and my ethic is simple: poets offer tribute to the muses.

i deleted the post bc i can’t stand jc glazers, but i’ll restate my point: it’s hypocritical how so many avatar fans claim they love fictional indigenous women, but when it comes to real ones they’d rather ridicule them bc their priority is always to defend a white billionaire

@brettdmcdowell @fiendformojitos No, she was used as practice translating human features to Navi features. The biggest differences between navi and humans kn their face is that they have very large, wide set eyes and a cat nose. She has neither, she was not his inspo for the navi

I think you have it wrong. The issue is not just Neytiri as an individual character. All Na’vi share a consistent species design, and that design traces back to Neytiri’s conceptual foundation, which Cameron explicitly tied to Kilcher’s photo as an early visual anchor. She was the soul of the Na’vi.

@Foxfire240461 @DyingCivs How many times do you need to be told that it takes more fields to farm animals, and farming can be researched to do less harm??? You're actually brain dead. A genuine NPC

@Foxfire240461 @DyingCivs Your vision is so clouded by cope that you can't see the simplest truths like KILLING FOR NO REASON IS BAD. WAKE UP! the meat eaters saving grace was the falsehood that there was something necessary about it. But hear I am alive and well, so that's a load of shit.

@Foxfire240461 @DyingCivs This is literally you. 🙄 You know damn well that the vast majority of people aren't eating animals that only they hunted. And if you hunt, you're not changing the cruel system, you're just maintaining it, while also taking lives with your own hands for fun.
