Whenever the divine favor chooses someone to receive a special grace, or to accept a lofty vocation, God adorns the person chosen with all the gifts of the Spirit needed to fulfill the task at hand. ~ St. Bernardine of Siena, (Office of Readings) #StJoseph #StJosephsDay

@FrCharles They’ll meticulously adhere to the Old Covenant memorial meal rubrics (as defined by post-Exilic rabbis), but they’ll wing it by the so-called “leading of the Spirit” when offering up the New Covenant sacrificial fulfillment 🤷🏻

@LeeGilbert41943 @NY_Arch @StPatsNYC @AbpNewYork I used to call the church where I work the civic cathedral of the Irish-American memory of the town and a parish of the Catholic faith in its spare time. One year I calculated that St. Patrick stole 17% of Lent (parade, ancillary parade events, etc.).
English

@FrCharles @NY_Arch @StPatsNYC @AbpNewYork St. Patrick's Day was located in Lent specifically to circumscribe it and keep it from morphing into the Holy Season of St. Patrick, which otherwise it surely would have done.

Fun email from someone in OCIA, asking if St. Patrick's Day is a break from Lent just for Irish people, which gave me a chance to reply re: the General Roman Calendar and how in some places memorials can turn into solemnities (for everyone). Tags: @NY_Arch @StPatsNYC @AbpNewYork

@paramylodon @NY_Arch @StPatsNYC @AbpNewYork I don't think so, but they do seem to have banana shakes mcdonalds.it/prodotti/gelat…

@FrCharles @NY_Arch @StPatsNYC @AbpNewYork I hope you mentioned the real solemnities this week and next week too!

@FrCharles Splendid! I've had disappointing experiences with even parish patrons in this neck of the woods.

I always enjoy how the readings for the solemnity* of St. Patrick include 1 Peter 4:7: "Keep sane and sober."
*Here in the particular church of Neoeboracum, where he is the principal patron. #StPatricksDay

@pgoings The quarterly liturgy newsletter from the Archdiocese said to do so and had instructions.

@FrCharles Do parishes in New York actually observe the Solemnity, or do they just follow the missalette?
