@MoresJustus @BackwardsFeet What the SSPX is doing (claiming they're obedient to Rome while simultaneously defying Church law and papal authority) is no different from Catholic politicians claiming that "Supporting abortion is A-OK because my Catholic conscience tells me it's totally fine."

@MoresJustus @BackwardsFeet The whole "jurisdiction" argument is a smokescreen for the fact that 1) the Vatican *explicitly* said "You do not have our permission to ordain new bishops" and 2) the SSPX said "Actually, we don't need your permission because it's an 'emergency' and we know better than you."

@Childermass1 Hopefully you noticed that I am directly echoing the words used by the Vatican in today's statement. Regardless of what happened in 1988, the Holy See unequivocally stated that *this particular action* "will constitute a schismatic act". Please do not put words in my mouth.

@FrMikeCSC So you're saying they didn't "formally commit schism" in 1988 for doing exactly the same thing? 🤔

The whole SSPX situation is extremely saddening. Instead of reconciling with Rome, they've repeatedly chosen to follow their own desires rather than obey the Vicar of Christ. I pray that they come to their senses before they formally commit schism.

We confess to Jesus Christ, not to a man. The man (the priest) is the instrument by which we confess to Christ. And when we are absolved of our sins, they are absolved by Christ through the priest.
