So now my feed is filled with Christians expressing faux outrage at Easter eggs allegedly being sold with reference to Easter per se, countered by multiple people wielding “akshually, they’re pagan” fakelore. 🙄

It's time to boycott Tesco, fellow patriots. Just tried to buy some Easter eggs from their website and they don't seem fit to mention the word EASTER, at all. Not even once. It's time we let Tesco know that this is a CHRISTIAN country.

@ShepherdWales Again, you are inserting language I did not use to prove a point I am not arguing. Christianity is a tradition - intellectual, liturgical, emotional, linguistic, etc. It is not 'just another' tradition.

Then I am not sure what we’ve been going round in circles about and what got you so engaged. Reducing Christianity to just ‘another’ tradition is not acceptable by our leaders. This statement effectively reduces Christianity and therefore Christ to ‘just another tradition’ which he fundamentally isn’t IF you actually believe what he himself said.

This take is so messed up from a Christian leader. A) Christianity isn’t a tradition. B) Jesus never actively encouraged idolatry and got very angry when he encountered it. C) In the Old Testament every time Israel strayed from worshipping God and God alone they spent some time in the Wilderness.

It’s a distinction between the tradition of church and ritual and the fundamental relationship with Christ that is actually the Christian Faith. I do not view my relationship with Christ as a tradition. Putting a Christmas tree in my house at Christmas, the modern Prayer book - are traditions. My faith is not. I’d prefer my spiritual leaders to focus on the latter and not reduce my faith to the former

@FrYSWalker You don’t think there was a lesson to be learnt from Jesus turning over the tables in the Temple?? It’s just descriptive? Or that practically the whole of the recurrent message of the Old Testament is just descriptive with no message or lesson? Interesting

@ShepherdWales I have not said 'merely'. You seem to have a remarkably narrow view of what tradition is. I repeat, all relationship(s) exists 'within' tradition(s). The only person introducing the idea of a derogatory equivalence between Christianity and the Christmas Tree is you.

If Christianity is merely a tradition to you then you’re missing out on the actual purpose - relationship. A relationship is not a tradition. A ritual is a tradition. I do not think the leadership of the church should be reducing Christianity to the level of in house Christmas Tree.

@ShepherdWales Every religious tradition is a fundamental way of life. They don't stop being an intellectual and spiritual tradition, and being a tradition does not negate something being true.
