Some of the nastiest posts I’ve seen on this site have been of non-Irish people (especially left-wing Americans) ridiculing Dolores for writing an ‘anti IRA’ song. Leaving aside the fact that it was an anti-violence song against both the provos and British forces, I can’t think of a more deeply human refrain than ‘it’s not me, it’s not my family’ in response to a terrorist group murdering two children in our name. Sadly that empathy across borders is far too uncommon. It’s even more uncommon amongst people who watch conflicts from afar as a sport.

@benkawaller I was a kid in the 90s, and NOBODY I knew used those words. They are cruel, nasty, and dehumanizing words to use.
