Unpopular opinion: dark mode is not a design decision, it's a checkbox most teams skip actual thinking for. If your dark mode is just inverted colors with no separate contrast pass, it's not dark mode. It's a filter.

Sometimes I completely remove gradients and this is what final outcome looks like
