A supermassive black hole located 12.1 billion light-years from Earth is consuming matter at a phenomenal rate — over 40 times the theoretical limit! This discovery could help explain how supermassive black holes grew so quickly in the early Universe: s.si.edu/lid568 ⚫
Shameless self promotion! Great work from my colleague Hyewon Suh, who Discovered the Fastest-Feeding BH in the Early Universe: Observations from JWST and Chandra reveal a low-mass SMBH that appears to be consuming matter at over 40x the theoretical limit noirlab.edu/public/news/no…
NASA has selected @PRIMAprobe and @AXISprobe (far-infrared & X-ray missions, respectively) for a competitive Phase A study.
HUGE, heartfelt congrats & wishes of success to both teams ❤️, and HUGE ❤️ to the teams whose GREAT concepts weren't selected nasa.gov/news-release/n…
🎉 It's been a year since XRISM launched! Now deep in scientific observations, it's on the hunt to uncover the universe's mysteries. Stay tuned for the groundbreaking discoveries ahead!
#JAXA#NASA#ESA
🎉 Happy 1st anniversary, @JAXA_en's XRISM! 🚀✨ XRISM is exploring cosmic extremes and unlocking mysteries of black holes, galaxy clusters, and more. JAXA, @NASA, and @ESA show that working together can push the boundaries of discovery!

@KLM and @Dulles_Airport lost our stroller and despite having filed a lost item report we have not heard about it for 10 days now. I have called the @KLM lost baggage line and no action was taken. Where is my stroller?
.@NASARoman’s Wide Field Instrument has arrived @NASAGoddard and a small army of bunnies is working on taking off the lid to the shipping container. So exciting!
Happy 25th anniversary to @chandraxray! 🎉🛰️
Over the years, Chandra has unveiled the mysteries of black holes, supernova remnants, and the hot gas in galaxy clusters. Its discoveries have reshaped our understanding of the universe, showing us the hidden, high-energy cosmos. go.nasa.gov/4dgw2B1
Revisited the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) this night at a distance of around 80000km. This time tracking the spacecraft using it's latest TLE with the RASA 8.
Happy 65th Birthday, Meatball!
NASA's first administrator announced the adoption of NASA's first logo, designed by James Modarelli, on July 15, 1959.
Want to learn more about the history of NASA's logos? We have a book on that: go.nasa.gov/4f0HTF2
@astro_calhau it took me 6 months to get those papers straightened out for my job...Bologna Univ gives only certificates in Italian that needs to be translated before being recertified!
You should seriously grab your leftover eclipse glasses and go look at the Sun right now. That little dark spot near the bottom right limb is ~15 times wider than the Earth
