Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking making it imperative that you keep safety in mind when preparing today’s feast. And if you’re deep frying a turkey, it is even more important that you follow these safety tips. #Thanksgiving #FireSafety

Have a professional clean & inspect your chimney & heating equipment annually. Store ashes outside in a metal container at least 10 ft from any building. Turn space heaters off when leaving room or going to bed. Never use an oven to heat your home. #winterfiresafety #firesafety

As you stay cozy and warm during this cold spell that we are experiencing, we wanted to remind you to stay fire smart by plugging only 1 space heater into an outlet at a time and keeping anything that can burn at least 3 feet from any heat source. #winterfiresafety #firesafety

Bitterly cold air combined with the wind will produce near to below zero wind chill values over the region tonight. Dry and very cold weather is expected into the weekend. Plan ahead to limit exposure to the cold during this prolonged cold snap; Be like a cake, dress in layers!

Dried-out trees are a fire danger and should not be left in the home or garage, or placed outside against the home. Get rid of the tree after Christmas or when it is dry. Check with your local community to find a recycling program. #HolidayFireSafety #FireSafety #ChristmasTree

The top 3 days for home candle fires are Christmas, New Year’s Day, & New Year’s Eve. So this holiday season, place candles 12+ inches from anything that burns, in a sturdy candleholder that won't tip over, & never leave burning candles unattended. #HolidayFireSafety #FireSafety

As you deck the halls this season, be fire smart: • Only use nonflammable or flame-retardant decorations • Keep decorations away from heat sources & doors • Use clips, not nails, to hang lights • Some lights are only for indoor or outdoor use #HolidayFireSafety #FireSafety

A single “chirp” every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed. Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the smoke alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced. #firepreventionweek #firesafety

A continuous set of four loud beeps from your carbon monoxide detector—beep, beep, beep, beep—means carbon monoxide is present in your home. Go outside, call 9-1-1 and stay out. Learn the sounds of fire safety at fpw.org #firepreventionweek #firesafety

Hear a chirp, make a change! If your smoke or carbon monoxide alarm is chirping, change the batteries and check the alarm's expiration date. Alarms need to replaced after 10 years. If you don’t know how old it is, replace it. #firepreventionweek #firesafety
