At the first Full Council meeting of this municipal year in May, Steve Simkins voted to accept a pay rise for himself while refusing one for his colleagues.
The justification? That being Council Leader is a demanding full-time job.
Yet only weeks later, he accepted another highly demanding role as Deputy Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority, reportedly worth almost £30,000 a year.
So which is it? If leading Wolverhampton is a full-time job, how can residents have confidence it will now receive his full attention?
Wolverhampton has already suffered from years of missed opportunities, delays and decline. Instead of focusing on turning our city around, he's taking on another senior, taxpayer-funded position.
Residents deserve leaders whose priority is Wolverhampton - not collecting titles and pay packets.
The gravy train won't last forever.
Ultimately, it's the people of Wolverhampton who will
decide whether this record deserves another term.
