I’m at a commemoration for the lives lost in the Holocaust at the US Capitol. It opened with a moving presentation of all of the flags of the infantries that liberated death camps. I am struck by gratitude. So thankful to be an American Jew.

Today is Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. We remember the six million Jewish lives lost, and we remember how it began. Not first with violence, but with propaganda. With false narratives repeated until they felt like truth. That playbook still exists. It may be in your feed right now. So today, we ask: Question what you are being told. A huge factor behind the Pope's explosive popularity is that his mother tongue is English. For the first time ever, the Pope is easily understood by the English speaking world without a translator. Every statement he makes in English lands with an immediate thud like no Pope has experienced before. Pope Leo didn't quite get this in the beginning.
