It’s a glorious day for the beginning of a new golden age in America. Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump, on being sworn in as our next Commander-in-Chief. The American people wanted real change, and I look forward to supporting your agenda in getting our country back on track and undoing the damage done, both domestically and abroad, by the previous administration.

Accountability is not optional, it is our duty. Federal recognition of our work confirms what we have stood for from day one, enforcing the law, protecting our community, and confronting any activity that raises serious compliance concerns involving the murderous Cuban communist socialist regime. We will not look the other way. We are not afraid to scrutinize commerce connected to communists, dictatorships, or hostile regimes, and we will not be intimidated by anyone who tries to obstruct our work. This is not about humanitarian aid, this is about luxury commerce that raises real questions about who benefits and whether federal laws are being respected. I thank Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart for his leadership in bringing this issue forward. Our office will continue working with federal agencies, identifying potential violations, and taking action when necessary. America’s farmers feed, fuel, and sustain this nation, and House Republicans are delivering the support they need while protecting our farmland from foreign adversaries.

We just ended the Democrat-led Department of Homeland Security shutdown. This funding bill fully restores funding, stability, and pay for the majority of critical operations including TSA, FEMA, Secret Service, Coast Guard, and CISA – and it does so without any policy restrictions at the center of Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats’ radical agenda. While the far-left hoped to eradicate U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement resources, complete funding for those agencies is advancing concurrently. This two-pronged approach restores DHS immediately and makes it clear: enforcement will not be stripped. Having Democrats diminish Article I and force the use of reconciliation was not my preferred path. Yet, this is the reality before us. My support of today’s action is for all the frontline personnel who would have – once again – been subjected to missed paychecks starting this weekend. I’d rather carry the weight of an imperfect move forward than ask them to carry the real-life burden of Democrat failure. Trying to unilaterally dictate which national security functions survive while holding key operations and employees hostage during the longest government shutdown in history is not a record I would be proud of – but it’s one Democrats hold. I thoroughly regret the erosion of the appropriations process Senate Democrats have instigated, and the consequences that were paid by everyday Americans. It is not a standard I accept – and my votes and position throughout this process have made that clear, each and every time.

As Chair of the Subcommittee that funds the annual State Department bill, I prioritized crafting a bill that protects life, upholds American values, and enhances our standing in the world. This includes holding foreign governments and bad actors accountable for persecuting people of faith, including by restricting assistance to Nigeria until measurable actions are taken to protect Christian communities suffering from religious violence.
