And meanwhile Germany built Nord Stream, deepened its energy dependence on Russia, and — in one of the most consequential strategic mistakes in modern European history — shut down nuclear power without any credible geopolitical fallback. What was presented as moral sophistication often turned out to be strategic infantilism, and the result was certainly not peace. It was strategic dependency — and, to put it bluntly, weakness — disguised as sophistication. One of the central themes of The Lost Peace.
