So-called 'dead wood' is actually full of life! There's numerous organisms, inc. invertebrates, fungi & slime moulds, that live there, helping to break down & recycle its nutrients. In this log I found snake millipedes (Proteroiulus fuscus) & a common woodlouse (Oniscus asellus).

The more closely we look, the more complex, sophisticated & interconnected Nature is revealed to be! Scientists in Japan have discovered a plant that mimics the smell of half-eaten ants, in order to attract other ants that act as pollinators for the plant. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Really very sad to see this disrespect out in the wilds. Who do these people think will tidy up after them? I could only carry away the squashable trash. Yugh.

Waiting for mum 🐰 A brown hare mum has hidden these baby leverets to keep them safe. She'll be back at night to feed them. Finding this hideaway is like coming across a very special secret - one you just have to keep🤫 #ukwildlife

Another sign of early spring on the Findhorn Hinterland yesterday - the new season's needles were just beginning to burst out from their resin-covered buds on the leader shoot of a young Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris).
