I won’t embarrass her here but she knows who she is and I think she’s an absolute legend 🥰

In a week that has been so difficult for so many, I heard from one of my managerial colleagues about an experience she’d had while on a duty manager shift….🧵

Our hospitals cannot manage without nurses, doctors, therapists, pharmacists, porters, admin teams and so many others. Our managers are a crucial part of holding it all together and among some of the hardest working people I know.

She saved a life that night.

And she said yesterday that the patient has been found a place for support and treatment.

Eventually persuading them through the power of a cup of tea to come back inside.

She stayed with them for three hours, outside on a freezing cold night.

At 10pm on a freezing cold night she sat outside our busy emergency department with someone for whom life felt so unbearable that they wanted to end their life.

A workplace culture in which everyone feels that their gender identities are validated, rather than questioned or threatened on the basis of outdated stereotypes, will benefit everyone. hbr.org/2023/01/resear…
