@SamuelAAdams Critics should also understand the movie they are viewing. To not know that the movie purposefully ends where it ends and legally could NOT dive into the various legal issues (which were filmed and had to be scrapped) is not doing anyone any justice. They didn't "ignore" it.

A complaint I keep seeing is that critics should be reviewing MICHAEL for what it is, rather than what they think it ought to be. But sometimes critics have a moral obligation to reject the terms a movie sets for itself, or at the very least to question those terms.

I read a book a couple years ago called “make the bread buy the butter” - a woman did EVERY homemade thing she could think of, from pastry to keeping a beehive in order to figure out what was worth the time and effort. She says you should buy the butter
Just buy really hq butter if u need it to be super nice and home made feeling. The butter u make at home is probably not better than store bought, probably not cheaper, definitely not easier.

We’ve legit lost the plot. I honestly have zero idea what people are looking for these days but there needs to be a major shift in criticism. The movie I saw was well written, well directed, beautifully shot, insanely well performed and the sound was amazing. Are we “film” critics or not. We’re supposed to help paint the picture of what an audience can anticipate and this score is not even close to that picture, objectively.
