Google getting community noted for the massive downgrades on the Gemini subscription plans should be getting SO MUCH ATTENTION. Every single AI company has been subsidising compute costs at extremely high levels to get customers, they all know that once workflows are established and embedded, it's easier to force customers to accept lower usage limits and then introduce "pay for more" as an option. There's a deliberate lack of honesty and transparency about actual usage limits. A company will say "10x higher" or "20x higher" but there's nothing whatsoever stopping them from changing what "10x higher" is actually higher than at any point in time. Companies are further limiting usage by imposing weekly limits on top of hourly session limits on top of specific model limits and even "unlimited" limits are not "unlimited" as there's a fair use caveat and that fair use is decided by the company who's already treating the customer unfairly. The data centres required to provide compute are finite resources, there's only so much output that can be guaranteed until new data centres are built, companies are relying on the circular funding coming from investments and customers to build those new data centres whilst doing everything possible under the sun to increase the current demand, which is already not being met. When a company as massive as Google is already struggling to meet demand and imposing stealthy downgrades and rate limits... The availability of accessible and affordable AI for the average customer in the future looks extremely bleak. Western companies are already seeing customer shift to non-western models like Deepseek, Qwen and Kimi, all of which have far cheaper API costs and don't come with the risk of being deprecated and replaced on a monthly basis and far more people are learning about open source models so they can run models locally themselves. If companies like Google, Anthropic, OpenAI and xAI continue to alienate and lose customers by engaging in non-transparent sales tactics and shifting the goal posts once people have paid to be on the pitch, they're all going to have a really bad time when they discover that customers have chosen self-sufficiency over paying for a continual degradation of service. #Google #Gemini #Anthropic #OpenAI #ChatGPT #Claude #Grok #xAI #AI #LLM

@LyleHender56329 @KNGMKRlabs His point is the technical understanding of industry grade tools is less of a barrier for people who already have the talent to sell a good story. It will boil down to talent/taste of the individuals using it of course - but both can be true.

@KNGMKRlabs This is such a mid understanding of the barrier to entry to storytelling. It’s talent. It’s always been talent. You need a pen and a paper to be Tarantino. You need an iPhone to be Sean Baker.

The IP conversation is a distraction. The real conversation is that the barrier to entry for professional-quality visual storytelling is dropping to zero and nobody who currently holds power in the entertainment industry is prepared for what that means. Not the studios. Not the unions. Not the agencies. Not the streamers. The only people who are prepared are the ones already making things.
