@GraemeFrew5 @FrogstarWorld @jk_rowling Dying in old age is nothing like dying at 30. Dying in old age is what we’d all like to do having had the chance to live our life. Dying at 30 not so much.

When you stop and think about it, assisted dying's a bit like salted caramel ice cream or shuffle dancing, because they're choices, too. Or Lynx Africa body spray - use it, don't use it, nobody else's business.
Genevieve Holl-Allen@genevieve_holl

Kim Leadbeater MP has just likened the legalisation of assisted dying to legalising gay marriage On Sky News: 'It is a choice, it's a bit like gay marriage isn't it? Marry who you want to marry, love who you want to love. It's nothing to do with anybody else'

REALITY CHECK. Runcorn & Helsby is one of Labour's safest seats. Yes, @reformparty_uk is on a roll, but @UKLabour is working very hard. All to play for, but for @Nigel_Farage there would be no shame in not winning this one...

@FraserNelson I agree-while so much real stuff going on, why waste energy in opening his big mouth to spout nonsense without thinking first.

JD Vance, himself a former Marine, has explicitly said he wasn’t referring to UK or French troops and praised their service. With so much real stuff going on, why waste time / energy on fake outrage?

@MartinSLewis @CommonsTreasury My son has just lost out using a Help to Buy ISA as his purchase is 270k. I feel guilty as I encouraged him to open one when he was 20. Ridiculous to keep an arbitrary cap when prices have risen a lot in the last 6 years.

I gave evidence to @CommonsTreasury on LISAs today - a savings product 1st time homebuyers can use to get an up to £1,000/yr bonus on. Yet use it on a property over £450,000 and the state effectively fines you 6.25% of what you’ve put in, to get the cash out. This is unfair and off-putting, especially as the £450,000 threshold hasn’t increased with house prices.

Some of you may disagree but the public desecration of any holy book should be viewed as a hate crime and the offender should face consequences.

His name was Vitaliy. He was 19. He was a soldier. He will be returned to his parents’ home today. On his shield. He gave his life for Ukraine. He did not have to go. He volunteered. He never married. He never fathered a child. He will always remain 19. If you are a russian supporter, this boy’s blood is on your hands. If you are “outside the politics,” this boy’s blood is on your hands. If you are a silent observer, this boy’s blood is on your hands. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Hero!

From opposite ends of the political spectrum (and in between them LibDem leader Sir Edward Davey shares their view on this issue) these long-standing MPs spell out a few home truths that require little imagination to become reality theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@DanNeidle If it’s as few as 100-500 farms then why even bother with the tax?

The Country Land and Business Association says the new £1m cap on agricultural inheritance tax relief will "harm 70,000 farms". That's 1/3 of all farms. What does the actual data show? Less than 500 farms/year will be pay more tax as a result of this change every year. Possibly as few as 100.

@FelicityHannah And it’s not really taxed twice is it-it mostly comes from windfall gains on houses which aren’t taxed as primary residences.

One thing I find very odd about the inheritance tax debate is this idea that it is ‘wrong to tax money twice’. That happens all the time in our system. I’ve just paid VAT on a chocolate bar that I bought with my taxed income.

44% income tax (46% Inc NI) on anyone earning over 75k. Seems like a very bad idea. When they can just go to England and pay 40%. #tippingpoint

What on earth is so threatening about a few men who prefer make-up & perfume to shaving & that vile stuff my sons mistake for deodorant? Woman all over the world are having to overcome such appalling treatment, and yet we are too fragile to deal with a face on a beer can, Really?

There is no need to have a debate on Gary Lineker. Two words - ‘Andrew Neil’ - means this is an open and shut case. The BBC allowed its main politics presenter to run a hard right magazine, and espouse right wing opinions on social media. There’s nothing more to say on this!
