@StevenVent101 I say it all the time. Give the players a tool box as many tools as possible. The skill or craft is knowing what tool to use when and why. A blend of both is important and to differentiate for each player it’s not a one size fits all approach thats why you need both.

On the opposed v unopposed debate: as coaches, we are encouraged to spend most time on the right hand side of the practice spectrum. However, when you add training frequency into the mix, that dynamic can shift dramatically. Take the PSV academy: kids train 10 hours a week; 40% is solo training (unopposed). Translated to a weekly one-hour grassroots session, 40% would be 24 minutes unopposed training. That is clearly not an efficient way to build skilful players. In summary: Limited training time = right side of the spectrum; Multiple session per week = blend in left side of the spectrum. @TheS_Resource #coaching

10s in most ineffective turn of all time. This is the issue with unopposed work, we practice moves (actions) without the important information. If the mannequin had legs they would get tackled pretty much every time - luckily they don’t!

“Playing in the pocket” A term often banded about. What is it though? Why? Beneficial for a number reasons. 1. Causes confusion 2. Pins the opposition 3. Creates space 4. Penetrative runs @SundayShare10

@_otlfc @SundayShare10 The opposition structure determines positioning of the these players in the pocket. Essentially your trying to access the 1/2 pace get between the cb/fb

@_otlfc @SundayShare10 Typically two 8s play in the pockets. Positioning of these players is most important to occupy spaces.

⚽️ C O M P A C T N E S S ⚽️ A term to describe being “close together” defensively. Remaining compact is really important as it prevents the opposition from playing through you, between you or behind you, making it hard for the opposition to attack. @SundayShare10 🔴🔵
