The operation, was a failure. Disassembly and reassembly wasnt much trouble, but the screen replacement failed.

@fryfaec The motherboard is still usable, so if I hook up my vga monitor, I can use the computer fine.

@yatravaxa My usage on idle is around 173 MiB (when I've started x and dwm) and whenever I run fastfetch, that jumps up to 400 MiB. Pretty crazy.

If you are wondering why I have two T60 motherboards, its because I bricked one, and the other is still working. I need to transfer the working board into the non-working boards case, because that one has a functional screen, and the other doesn't (burnt out LCS backlight.)

@mockonaa The internals are very similar between the T60 and T400. I own both, its like looking at the same computer, except they run different CPUs.

Sorry for the late upload!! Its Fumo Friday and I've brought back an old kind of upload! This tracker song is called "Point of Departure" by Necros. You may recognize it if you played custom maps on Unreal Tournament back in the day.

@Re51221264 @TPnTexas @bee_fumo I'm sympathetic to Linux devs facing difficulties getting buggy driver or h/w errata workarounds discovered and implemented, while Windows due to MSFT market power has fixes/workarounds out of the box. Still, by 2006 I had to make a switch. I hope to use Linux again. Best distro?

@bee_fumo I didn't use a floppy, but I once made a floppy disk image, then booted it on my laptop.

you can still get a linux distribution that fits in a single floppy disk btw. Not pretty but entirely possible.

It's funny, but it also illustrates how ridiculously bloated modern software has become. Windows 11 is about 150 times larger than the first floppy disk based edition of Windows 95 while fundamentally offering the same functionality and being subjectively just as slow, if not slower. If order of magnitude advances in hardware specs had not been eaten up by at least matching inefficiency increases in operating systems and applications, we could have mainstream operating systems that perform a cold boot in less than a second, update themselves in seconds, and applications that start instantaneously. PCs are hundreds or thousands of times faster today than in 1995, depending on how you measure, but all that increase in raw performance has been wasted on bloat and enshittification.
